Recently was T boned at an intersection. Going to take too long to wait to go through insurance. will get reimbursed eventually. Anyway.............need a left front strut assembly. The whole thing, strut and spring. And inner and outer tie rods. Been quoted $700 parts and labor by my local shop. Seems kinda steep to me.
Most shops will double the cost on parts (everybody has got to eat). If these are new and not salvage than I would say it is a reasonable quote.
You might be able to use a used strut. I recall at least in Calif, selling and installing used suspension parts is not allowed. I do not have a repair guide time book, or taken the time to research parts costs. Also not indicated if you are using OEM or aftermarket parts. Note that "they" recommend changing shocks/ struts in pairs as to not affect handling. Labor rates in my area are $150 or more per hour. 4 wheel alignments are $180. 1) Remove wheel and hub. 2) Inspect for bent mounting area and other damage. 3) Replace strut assembly. 4) Replace inner & outer tie rods. 5) Wheel alignment. So with that said, a little more research may reveal if the cost is "step". Good luck.
