I went to get gas and saw someone keyed my car all around where the gas cap is. I have done nothing to anyone to make them angry at me so this was just a random act of violence. It seems our society is heading down hill.. Sorry to rant.

unfortunately, there are haters out there, of anyone with the view that it would be a good idea, for whatever reason, to conserve our energy resources.
sorry to hear about what happened, it stinks.

Sorry to hear your Prius was vandalized.

It's really unfortunate that WPOS* get kicks out of doing stupid things like that, especially since most Prii have 3 step paint that's not easy to touch up yourself.

The karma wheel turns slowly, but it does turn. They'll get theirs.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Mooky
We have a saying in the UK, "what goes around, comes around". I'm a great believer that bad things happen to bad people and they will get theirs eventually.

My team used to refer to me (affectionately) as KOS. The O referred to Old, but I'm not confident the last initial stood for sergeant and I'm glad I wasn't a Captain, Colonel or Commander. The doubt would have been excruciating!!! :censored: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oh dear, I'm sorry to learn of your misfortune, and my advice is to trust in karma! To understand this what seems to be a modern phenomenon, just remember that we're now living in "The Age of Entitlement"! :(

That seems to be the prevailing attitude in my opinion. Some feel entitled to express themselves however they like toward others and their property and yet command respect from everybody else, or else you're "dissing" them!

    Mooky,

Very sorry to hear about that. Glad that you have a place to talk about it. It seems to me that with each passing day, more and more people are showing their "darkside". It is time for all of us "good people" to start doing good. It would be great if a car paint place in your area who may be reading this could offer to help fix it. Then with the money saved on fixing your misfortune you keep your ears and eyes open to someone else in your area and pass on the love. This is how we fix the attitude out there. For every bad thing, we fix it with two good ones. Everyday, I make it an effort to create a good outcome to bad things that happen within my reach. If we don't respond, only the bad prevails. I, personally, at the risk of you not believing there is a God, will pray for something wonderful to come from your unfortunate situation!

Could be karma - I know I pelted cars with corn/small pebbles as a kid. But alas, karma is real. In my adult life I've now had it done to me on a couple occasions. (Pelted with pebbles and had my car egged). I remember being frustrated, then thought - hey it's payback.

Think back, never did anything like this when you were young? lol

Sorry. No, I never did that sort of thing against other people's property. Only against other boy gangs where nobody ever got badly hurt by a pebble or missile.

I once squeezed into a parking spot in a movie theater that someone else wanted even though I got there slightly ahead of them When I came out of the movie theater, they keyed the trunk of my car as they were passing by. Now if there is any question about a parking spot being competed with against another driver, I just let them have it and park towards the back of the parking lot. I don't want to get keyed again for a lousy parking spot. In any case where you detect road rage in a parking lot, don't leave you car parked unattended or they might vandalize it.

Not to pick nits but car keying does not really rise to the level of "violence."
If you've ever been the victim of a violent crime, you will understand and appreciate the difference between a property crime and a violent crime.

I drive beaters, so if somebody keys my car it's a lot worse on them than it is on me, but I've had new cars before and I know the frustration of trying to keep it looking new, even without the car keying.
It's a crime.....just like breaking windows, tagging things with spray paint, and the like.
I remember somebody painted a building with something to the effect that "It's not graffiti.....it's ART!" and I wondered at the time how the miscreant would feel if somebody did an etching on the side of their car.

    So....
    The only question remaining is:
Was it random, or was it inspired by [sic] "Prius Hate" or is the OP just one of those drivers that attracts road rage?

    Probably, it was random.
Priuses are more than likely "singled out" a little more "statistically" because their drivers tend to to have a higher percentage of left lane plugs or have nice, inspiring bumper stickers.....but car keying has been around for quite a long time now, and LOTS of non-Priuses get keyed too.

I live and drive in the deep South these days.
LOTS of 4x4 pickups, and people here are more Walmart shoppers than the Whole Foods kind, and in nearly 140,000 miles over seven years I cannot really say that I have encountered much in the way of "Prius Hate."

....but then, I don't go around looking for it.

I hope in the OP's case that (to misquote CDR Spock) "random chance seems not to have operated in her favor."
However......you may want to hold off getting the paint repaired, just in case. ;)

    Good Luck!

It's very easy to upset some people without knowing it. I sometimes find myself getting annoyed at other people's inconsideration and/or lack of knowledge about how to behave in general, but I never take any action against them as I know as human beings we are all different and what some may consider as thoughtless or ignorant actions, others think is ok. As the saying goes, "ignorance is bliss".

I get a lot of road rage driving in the right lane and keeping safe distancing from the car in front of me. Also some drivers get really hot if I don't burn rubber and drive like an idiot.

Slow down and live folks. Speed kills and the speed limit is actually the speed limit and not a suggestion. Bad road conditions and traffic may require you to drive slower.

It is a generation or two that believe all laws are only a suggestion and to be ignored and they can and will abuse your property. I do not have a good feeling about the direction of civil relations in this county due to loot & burn events over the last 16 months. So they can key your car because they can and will never get caught unless a policemen is watching or you have a camera rolling.

All down to treating all folks with dignity and respect 24/7 (even the ones you don't like).

Needs to be a very stiff tax on all non work trucks/4X4s/ and high performance cars until they are taxed off the road. Exception would be harsh climates, back country farms, etc.
Also one person in a giant 4X4 driving to work like a maniac on the way to work on a smooth highway is criminal.

Since the gas prices went down I see a 1000% rise in this kind of anti-social behavior.
I am not a happy camper on the roads these days. Once in a while I get someone who will walk up to me and start a chat about my car. But that is a rare event.

Some drivers are just a POS and need to be removed from the roads.

Keying a car is absolutely terrible to do to some one and makes you wonder if they were following the car and were pissed about something. Most probably what happened the driver was probably doing the speed limit, keeping in their lane, and being a safe driver (maybe a bumper sticker). Doesn't mater as it is never right to do wrong.

How do you identify a 4x4 on the road? The height difference between my 2WD Tundra (2000) and the 4x4 is only about an inch
