I'm ba-aaaack! So the dealer replaced the battery under warranty. They called me yesterday and when they went to start the car, nothing happened and they pulled up a code indicating the transmission is kaput. The tech said that it's likely the transmission blew the battery, but we never knew that because there was no code. Does this sound right to you all? My guess is that, if that is the case, it probably ruined the first battery also, since the problems were the same right before that one went out. So now I have a car with a brand new high voltage battery, can't run. What would you all do? Tow it home and sell for parts or maybe there are people out there that would buy the whole car despite not running? At this point, I'm just hoping to get a little bit of money to cover the $1K I owe on the car. I've already gone out and bought another used car since I decided to get rid of this Prius one way or another. Service rep offered to "scrap" the car for me for a few hundred bucks and when I reminded him it has a brand new battery in it he said "Oh, that's right". I really can't tell if they are trying to take advantage of me or if they just aren't very smart.

That battery is worth some money.

I have some other ideas. I may give you a call.

Humm... This is interesting. I'm somehow doubting what the dealer is saying. Something isn't ringing true. I'm not saying the dealer is dishonest. But, often dealers have only one guy working on the Prius line and they're often not as well trained as they should be. If the car were mine, I'd take it home and fix it... but then I'm capable of that. I hate to see a somewhat good Prius go to scrap. How many miles on the car?

Lots of us even have a pretty good idea what's gone kaput. Maybe you should try to sell it on this forum. $1000 or best offer. Same on craigslist. The new HV battery is worth the thousand bucks. Lucky I don't live closer or have a grand laying around, I've already hauled home a "dead" 02 this year which has become my daily driver. Love my Pri's! Gen 1 Prius Transmission Repair, P3009, P3120, P3125 - Luscious Garage | Hybrid Specialists Unfortunately, my supply of Gen 1's have all been crushed by the local Pick a Part. A new MG2 is pretty spendy.

Sorry for your troubles, btw. charlotte auto parts "2002 prius" - craigslist

If you could find someone to reasonably change out the trans, there are at least a couple of Gen1 Pri's parts cars on Craigslist one lists a transmission for $350. The other says they have a whole car to part out.
