I had this come on yesterday. I pulled over to the side of the road, immediately shut the car off, opened the drivers door to hear the brake booster pump, then powered the car back on. The lights stayed off... I checked the codes with my code reader and there were none reported.

Insensitive brakes makes me think they've gone into a sorta fail-safe mode, which I've had on our 2010 Prius hatchback, was a "handshake" electronic problem. Never compeletly resolved, but might have been due to my having a Scangauge always weighing on the OBD port.

Maybe your code reader isn't sufficient, is it techstream? Invest $75~100, bring it into dealership for diagnostic?

I haven't had the issue since. I'm thinking it's an issue with my drivers door, honestly. I'm having issues with the door lock actuator right now and I know the brake booster engages when you open the door... so maybe?

Try checking the health of your auxiliary battery. I had a similar problem in my second gen just last week and it ended up being caused by low voltage in the 12v system. The Brake and ABS lights would come on and the car falls back to manual braking, hence the soft pedal.

ztanos: The failure of your door lock actuator could also be caused by the aux battery. Does it work sometimes?
