Just curious how far some of you have gone before hitting the gas station after the blinking low fuel light comes on? Might be a fun topic to see the sort of responses I get... or maybe not. Wonder whose gone the furthest... Personally the furthest I've gone has been a roundtrip to school and almost back, I went to the gas station on the return leg ~48 miles (roundtrip would've been 52ish). I remember sweating it out a bit toward the end haha
Bob did 122 and 132 miles with his Gen3 Liftback, though he was intentionally running dry. I'm not sure anyone has run the same test with a 'c'. [WARNING] Running out of gas (Gen III) | PriusChat
I have gone 81 miles, but that was when I was averaging 62 mpgs on that tank... and it was on accident. I generally try not to go more than 50 miles since the light comes on. I'm crazy, but even I like a little buffer.
63 miles is the most I've traveled on "empty". But I have an Ultragauge that I also use to track mileage and estimated distance-to-empty. That fill up was 8.675 gallons/584.9 miles.
I had about 25m left on the display and all of a sudden it went to zero and drove about 2 miles to the nearest station. Is that normal to go from say 25 to 0 in an instant ?? Never done that test before and last Saturday what my first time doing that so I jammed to the nearest gas didn't want to take any chances running out of gas at 5am LoL. Is that normal???
Did this happen on an uphill segment? I remember seeing mine snap to 0 from 10-15 miles remaining. It seemed related to the uphill tilt of the tank, and the increased full consumption needed to climb. Unlike my Subaru, my Prii have displays that never ever increase except when sufficient fuel (multiple gallons) are added. I.e. when shifting from high fuel consumption conditions (uphill with lousy weather) to easy gliding (downhill for long distances), the Prius DTE continues decreasing at a minimum rate (at least 1 mile subtracted for every 2 miles rolled), while the Subaru can see its DTE increase, sometime considerably. Here is a test of distance on the low fuel warnings of a Gen3 Liftback. Your 'c' likely has a somewhat smaller safety margin. [WARNING] Running out of gas (Gen III) | PriusChat
As far as the next gas station - I don't play the "miles per tank" game, only the "miles per gallon" game...
G'day, Prius C Runs out of Gas and Battery Power!!!!!! How Far??? | PriusChat By the looks of it, best done on flat, back-roads. David S.
During the winter, my gen 2 would say I needed gas when I still had 4.5 Gallons of gas left. My gen 3 consistently turns on with about 3 gallons left. I did the math and the cars countdown to empty assumes like 43 mpg and is worthless. Our tanks have 11.9 gallons. 50 mpg and we can go 600 miles; 45 mpg and we can go 540.
