Wondering if an aftermarket Cabin and Air filter make a difference with my 2010 Prius MPG? Or should I just stick with Genuine Toyota Parts ?? ebay has an aftermarket set for $12.00 shipped and it has sold 1300+ so was looking into that
With computer controlled fuel injection the engine air filter, or the condition of the filter, really doesn't matter. If anything, mpg will improve as filter gets dirtier, at least until it's severely clogged. I'd stick with Toyota filters, picked up through a local dealership, for trivial reasons: 1. One less jet contrail across the sky. 2. Guaranteed fit. 3. This is something you change maybe twice in a car's lifetime, not worth chasing alternatives.
Don't change them prematurely too. Check the condition, it really depends on the environment. I'm at 72K kms, still on both original filters. The cabin filters collects the occasional insect or seed, but the engine air filter looks barely different than brand new. Maybe the west coast, cleaner air? I suspect I'll never change them, lol.
