You mean if they do not want to keep the old battery? That's what recycling centers are for.

 

Now have over 1,000 miles on the pack.
No issues to report.
Last 100 miles was at interstate speed. 65 to 70mph. Pack performed as it should.
30 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. 2 additional packs stored in the rear plus a customer's spare tire/rim.

I don't plan on any regular reporting after this. Not sure whether I will be keeping it in the car or not. Probably for a while simply because I don't want to take time to remove it. We'll see.

My previous battery did not have any issues. This pack was purchased and installed as an initial test.

If someone local wants to come purchase it from me, feel free to give me a call.

If it stays in the car longer I'll occasionally report in but not on any specific schedule.

I see you're in Pontiac Michigan. Perhaps this Pontiac Firebrid convertible will need a battery in 200K miles..

(It is a Prius v chassis & drivetrain with only 4500 miles) Due to be on the road next year.

 

I'm guessing that most people who do this kit don't plan on ever getting a Toyota or rebuilt battery in the future. So selling the modules may make sense.

But one word of caution, if you choose to sell your modules remember that there is a good chance your battery will not be accepted as a core without them.

Might be a good idea to have a full set of junk modules just in case.

Also retain the extra cabling, etc that was not used in building the cylindrical kit. That way you can put the pack back to stock configuration to turn in as a core.

Or keep your eyes out for a low priced junk core to keep as a backup.

 

I wish I had a core ..it would be ideal to jump in on this ..

Have almost enough loose cells to stack a dealer core at this time .

Yeah please keep this thing going. If these packs prove reliable, it could finally be a viable alternative to new Toyota packs.

I see four paths for the old OEM pack....

1) Offer for sale as an assembled core, that should fetch as much as $1400 (dealer's core charge)
2) Remove the good modules and sell them with "core exchange" for $30/module, which could net you ~$800 easy and fast
3) Test the pack, replace any bad modules and sell for $750-$900 with a 90 day no-fault replacement agreement
4) Same as #2, but take the "core" modules you get back and then sell the completely dead HV pack as an inexpensive core, say $600
and you could net $1400, but it's more work.

 

Best scenario: you practically break even.

 

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are getting at regarding the old pack.

If you do this kit you will use the original case to build the new pack.

This will leaves you with a loose pile of scavenged parts and no case: modules, buss bars, wire looms, etc.

The original case gets installed in the car. The original case contains the new modules.

1) No. You will not have an assembled core to sell.
2) OK. You might be able to sell them. How will you know they are good unless you spend time testing them? You'd have to buy some equipment and spend a bunch of time to truthfully make the claim that they are good. Unless you do the work to test them it would be more truthful to sell them as cheap untested modules.

3) No. Again, you just have a loose pile of parts. No case.

4) No. You no longer have a case. Just a loose pile of parts.

 

what do you do with the leftover parts?

Im considering this, but i have an extra complete case. So I wouldn't lose anything.

 

Apparently my coffee intake was lacking when I thought of that.... LOL!
