I don't know in this case, but in the 6 months I've had it, I haven't had it trip out of Ev until 0% even once.

    thanks @pilotgrrl
Went to the dealer after work and was told service manager was out and will be in tomorrow so I asked if I could drop off my car overnight so it will malfunction first thing in the morning. And that's what I'll be doing. It's a 48 minute walk home so it looks like I will be getting some exercise tonight

Waited for the dealership to test drive my car, got tired of waiting so I walked back to dealership, they never moved the car, said service guy did some research and said there's nothing wrong with the car, then service lady asked if I've seen the reasons ICE kicks in, I said you gotta be kidding me. She also said ICE kicks in at 37 mph on electric vehicles lol , I said you didn't even read the specs, now it's time to speak to the service manager, stay tuned

frustrating, but makes sense that most service departments don't understand these complicated cars.

Hey, Priuscatprimeguy, I live only a few miles away from the dealer and you. If I can be any help let me know.

My car stays in EV just fine in this cold weather. Granted, I don’t park outside, but my garage isn’t heated. Until a trip to the airport last weekend, I didn’t use the engine in October.

Suburban Toyota has a courtesy car. You shouldn’t have to walk back and forth.

I'm going to suggest making a video of the problem:
    1. Document temperature and car HVAC settings and displays.
    2. Replicate the problem.
This might make it easier for others to replicate the initial configuration to help document what is going on. Then if @KRB17 might collaborate to show a different result?

Matt called back, he says other people like on Priuschat that do not have the same issue as me (like Minnesota, Colorado, ETC) are not credible evidence of the issue. But he did say he will get Toyota corporate involved. Now I have to wait until next Tuesday when the weather dips below 46 F or so.

it's a mystery, because when I left the dealership and accelerated down Maple Road at 40 MPH there was not a peep from ICE. The car sat in the dealership overnight outside with only 1.8 miles EV used up:confused:

Mine spent 8 hours in freezing drizzle before I posted. I think that should be sufficient time to cold-soak.
