Posted this in the Gen 4 section but I'm not sure how many of you wander over there (should be more cross browsing since they are share a number of things) but just in case you don't, here's an interesting video.
Does the Prime actually have the active shutters? I looked when we picked ours up and didn't see them, and I don't see any mention in the owner's manual of them (thankfully I have a PDF version I could search through rather than having to read through the whole thing!).
I thought it did. I don't see active grille shutters mentioned in the 2016 Prius owner's manual either.
2016 Gen 4 has the grill shutters at least this one did. Grille Shutter Inoperative and Check Engine | PriusChat Seems to be a reliable feature just doing its thing in the background as nobody mentions it much.
Yes, the 2015 is mine - the 2017 Prime is my wife's (she lets me drive it once in a while....). She's not a PriusChat member, I just relay messages of interest to her.
BTW, that is only part of the story. See Prius Caught on Fire | PriusChat The user has not told us the results of the official investigation. The winter mode may explain what happened. 1. Dealer gets Prius in winter mode and notices shutters do not fully close. 2. Dealer installs EBH (engine block heater) with power cable routed through the shutters, since they do not fully close. 3. Shutter close warning when weather heats up. Cable is rerouted to clear the error. 4. Prius catches fire and the cause appears to be the EBH power cable. Other equipment in the garage suffered smoke damage. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Since the user has been gone for many months, I suspect they purchased a different vehicle. If my theory is true, then Toyota US (@Prius Team ) needs to be more diligent in dealer training. Vehicles & lives could be at stake.
