So this Toyota logo/emblem thing on my 2016 Prius broke some how. https://i.imgur.com/MPzRsac.jpg (the thing in the front middle), another pic of this thing https://i.imgur.com/4iLTj01.jpg Took a look at it then put it back. It stayed on after a few trips but I saw it was missing after that. Now I need to get it replaced.

I am just curious if I don't replace it would anything bad happen to my car when it rains, I go to the car wash or if the ground is muddy and all those things get through the hole? How much does it cost to get another one? Is it best to get it at the dealership or somewhere else? I googled it and some have it priced at around $60 but non 2016 model and others show prices of over $600. If water, car wash liquids or other elements that can get through that area of the missing emblem don't affect anything I might consider not getting a replacement but if all those things can do harm to my car then looks like I got no choice but to get a replacement.

Well your millimeter wave radar sits behind the emblem. I don't know how resistant it is to weather elements compared to competitors who have mounted their radar elsewhere (like older Volvos which had "exposed" radar units. Exposed as in it wasn't hidden behind an emblem)

As Tideland said, if you have radar (like DRCC), the radar is mounted behind that emblem. This is very different than the standard metal emblem. You pay $450 for the privilege of having permeable plastic. Otherwise none of your radar functions will work properly and alarms will randomly go off all the time as the radar gets reflected back erroneously. Think driving down the road no issue, suddenly emergency braking because the car detected a collision infront of you because of improperly reflected waves.

I don't want to sound rude but you know for 100% sure the emblem costs over $400? This is a bit confusing but according to the diagram, I need the part labeled "75311" but it shows multiple things on here under 75311:
EMBLEM & NAME PLATE (EXTERIOR & INTERIOR). For Avalon | San Francisco Toyota
. I looked up the number "75311" on there and it showed multiple things. I am not sure what 75310A is for, maybe the front and back part? One of the things under the 75311 sections shows the front emblem for $34.52. I'll go to my local dealer soon and ask them but I just want to confirm things with people here.

    Yes I know 100%.

If you have radar, you need the expensive one. If you don't have radar, you can use either of them.

    Don't assume that.

The 2016 spec sheet is attached.

<EDIT>All but the Prius 2 and Prius 2 ECO have radar</EDIT>

I just saw your img links (don't use links, hotlink them with the img tag here so people can see them without clicking a URL...) and if that is your emblem, then you don't have the AT package. The AT package emblem is plastic and smooth.

$481.90 to be exact for the emblem. (This is for the Prime but it should be the same emblem between the two.)

Yes, a Four Touring has TSS-P.

Only the 2016 Two/Two Eco do not have TSS-P

The logo in the picture though looks like the more 3D one. Did that change from the flat plasticky looking one for the radar emblem?

I'm under the impression he/she was just finding a generic front emblem without realising the difference between the two. The first image is of a Gen 3 bumper so that basically set the tone for the first message in my opinion. I'm basing my responses on their profile (2016 Four Touring). This is why it's important to fill out the profile so that we can refer to it :) .

So that's why I jump straight into the radar discussion.

    <sigh>

Ok... Does your emblem ACTUALLY look like that? Or is it like a flat piece of plastic with the Toyota emblem "painted" on it.

I forgot because I now have lost the emblem a few weeks ago and I never really looked at the emblem closely before I lost it. I just googled the Prius 2016 Four Touring and it probably looks like that:

But like I said I'll bring in my Prius into the dealership soon to know for sure. I'll post a pic of my bumper tomorrow too when I have time

Maybe Toyota could have just installed a pressure sensor on the front center on the bumper, that way whenever you tap something in front of you at 1 mph or more it will automatically debit your bank account $480. That way Toyota still gets their money but you don't have the hassle of taking your car in for a replacement emblem.

But seriously, I remember the first time someone reported this we suspected that the dealer was mistakenly trying to replace the entire sensor not just the emblem. Now we know that the emblem in front of the radar actually costs that much. Wasn't there some other place they could put it? Behind an opening in the grill, or at least off to the side a little if it could still be effective, instead of being located at the point of the spear like it currently is.

The emblem on the front of a Prius with Toyota Safety Sense-P traces its lineage as much to the radome on the nose of an airplane as it does to the Spirit of Ecstasy. As others have explained, the emblem must not attenuate too much RF energy in the 76–77 GHz band used by the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly.

The U.S. list price may be $490.75, but there are Toyota dealers selling them online for $340 or so and eBay sellers asking even less. The same part (53141-47030) is also used on the RAV4 and on Prius cars sold in Japan, where the list price is ¥30,000; as I’ve previously discussed, for a small, lightweight part like this, buying from an exporter in Japan may be a good option, if you can wait a few days for delivery.

I'm not sure there is a good place for it. Have you seen the new Accord's Honda Sensing placement? (Photo from MotorTrend)

Not sure if this makes a difference or not but here's what it looks like from the front and under the hood:

Looking at a side view it looks like it might be an inch or two behind the very front of the car. A very low speed impact that might break the plastic Honda emblem would probably not damage the radar sensor, or at least it would have a better chance since it's not at the very tip.
