Hello guys, Today when I was going to my friend, my Prius started to beeping when I was passing speeding bump. Just a short signal - Beep. I even couldn't catch what was the signal on dash board, only I noticed it was red.. When I arrived home I've checked all the possible dashboard indicators. I came to conclusion that it was Electric Power Steering (EPS) warning light. What could the reason? What should I checked first? What kind of specialist do I speak to?
Sorry I didn't write that it was two times on this day. It's definitely something wrong I think. What kind of sensor is responsible for this indicator? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I've noticed a similar occurrence when hitting speed-bumps (or hump-back bridges) or even railway crossings, at speed particularly when it's wet, the suspension un-weights and there is a bit of slippage between the tyres and the road surface, which caused the VSC and ABS lamps to flicker on. I think the car's system gets confused when there's slippage. The lights flicker for a moment and then go out! At least I hope that's the explanation, and to be honest I don't worry too much about it! - hope this helps - Wil
Well, for the first time it was really cold today and the road was frosty. It's a good point WilDavis, thank you. I will try to go on the same bumps when it will be warmer, also do the diagnostics. Could it be something with brake fluid? Or steering rack? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You might try moderating your speed when approaching speed-bumps/bridges/rail-crossings! If your car is properly maintained and all the fluid-levels are OK, then I wouldn't worry about it too much! BTW Welcome to PriusChat!
Thank you very much for warm Welcoming The speed was low, all the fluids seems to be ok. I have to observe ir more properly when it's exactly beeping. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The Prius traction control system, vehicle stability system, and anti-lock brake systems tend to interact when the wheels hop. The car will give a beep when that happens and will also release the brake and/or throttle for a half second or so. This is normal, the Prius has done this for years. If you drive on smooth roads all the time you won't experience it, but if you go over a really rough part of the road it will trip. It causes many to panic the first time it happens. Those of us with "experience" with this ignore it. Over the years Toyota has worked on reducing the effect, but it's still there. The easiest way to trip this is to brake and while braking hit a small pothole. It gets me every time.
Such a simple explanation! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for your honesty! At least I'll know now if it ever happens to me!
