Nonsense. Bought a Prime on Long Island, NY, and registered it in CO. I'd recommend a dealer in Maine but apparently Toyota's $3000 rebate is now only valid in NY and NJ

Changing my response after following the link in Salamander_King's later post..........where I did find that the rebate went up to $3250 in the Boston region. I regret not checking it myself before posting earlier, but I thought bisco was a reliable enough source of the $1250 number to just run with it.

So, at $3250 rebate, I could have saved $125 vs buying last month (if Boch was willing to do my same deal this month).....but at the time, there appeared to be risk of the MA rebate pool running out of money, so I'm still a happy camper because my $1500 rebate has been approved and the money is locked in.

OTOH, I just re-checked the MA rebate fund, and see that it now has been replenished to about $3.8 million....so there's no longer a rush to buy before it runs out.

The main timing issue in MA now is how long the 2017 stock will continue arriving, and how long the rebates are still at these very nice levels. This reduced pressure on MA residents to buy now, should make for marginally better availability for out of staters. If anyone needs to wait until 1/1/2018 for tax reasons, who knows if the model year would have changed over and the rebates would be gone by then. Other than people in that spot with a special situation regarding the federal $4500 tax credit, I'd say this is the Optimal time to get a 2017 Prime.

Bottom line... it's still true that most out of staters should check out RI, where prices are excellent and temp plates are issued. Or go to Boch in MA where I found by far the best dealer discount, but we don't do temp plates in MA. You'd have to be willing to give FedEx some business and/or perhaps hang out for a couple of days, in order to get your own state's registration/plates in hand to drive it away.

I am not sure where you are getting the information, but today at New Car Deals | Local Toyota Deals, Incentives & Special Offers Toyota has extended 2017 Prime rebate at least until the end of this month (ends 10/31) PLUS they increased the rebate to $3250 in MA and other NE states.

NJ is indeed down to $3K from $3500. There are still plenty to have in the area though, albeit Advanced models are hard to find. The dealer I bought mine from has 1 plus and 4 premium's still on lot.

    Hi Folks,

    I'm new to the forum.

I've been car shopping for a few weeks as a result of having to return my 2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI to Volkswagen. My Golf was covered under the Volkswagen class action settlement addressing the defeat device/software that Volkswagen covertly added to their "clean" diesel vehicles.

I decided on a Prime Advanced, and, based on information in this thread I went price comparison shopping/negotiating.

Long story short: I purchased a Prime Advanced on Oct 2 (the last day for last months incentives) from Muller Toyota in Clinton, New Jersey. I live in Virginia, so I had an "enjoyable" 11 hour round-trip drive from Crozet, Virginia to Clinton, New Jersey and back last Monday. I left around 12:30 PM and arrived at the dealer around 5:50 PM. I had to go return my rental vehicle and then commenced with the paperwork, etc. at Muller. I was able to start my return trip at around 7:30 PM and I got home at 1 AM (this from someone who rarely is awake at 10:30 PM on most nights).

In general I found most dealers were not willing to move much on price. I was able to get a bit of a discount from a few (Muller being the best of the few) and ended up with a sales price of $519 above invoice (or, equivalently, $805 below MSRP). Here's the breakdown ...

MSRP Prius Prime Advanced trim level: $33,100
    Delivery Charge: $895
    Documentation Fee: $349
    Alloy Wheel Locks Option: $65
    Floor/Cargo Mats Option: $224
    Subtotal before discounts/rebates: $34,633

Negotiated Dealer Price Reduction (off of MSRP): -$805
Toyota Incentive Cash Rebate in NJ: -$3500

    Total Sales Price: $30,328

Oh, yeah, the important stuff: it's the Blue Magnetism exterior with the black interior. My two finalists were the blue and the silver. My daughter lobbied for "no more silver cars" since both my wife and I have had silver cars for our last few vehicles. So, blue it was.

New member, this board helped me finding a good deal, so want to contribute back.

If you are in the Bay Area, dealers are all willing to discount now. Most will give you few hundreds discount to start, but there is room for more.

Avoid Fremont Toyota and Magnussen Toyota, neither will go beyond the few hundreds. Fremont Toyota just waste your time with endless emails.

The best deal I found for a Premium model (the one I am buying) is at Modesto. The Internet manager is willing to give me $1500 off MSRP, then they also have a program with Uber for $750 off (you can find it on their website, I am not allowed to add link), all on top of $1500 Toyota rebate. So total $3,750 off.

I ended up buying from Toyota Sunnyvale. Modesto is too far for me to drive. My dealer mentioned they give more discounts to the advanced model.

Just bought our first Prius from Marina Del Rey Toyota in California. I flew in from Phoenix and they picked me up from LAX. Already had test driven the car locally and was talking with 3 California dealers and 2 local dealers to get the best price (including cost of airline ticket and additional taxes in California vs Arizona (extra 1.2%), but not my time driving it back).

    Model: Prius Prime Advanced
    Ext Color: Magnetic Gray Metallic
    Int Color: Moonstone

    Base MSRP: 33,100
    Factory options: 224
    Delivery: 895
    Doc fees: 80
    Electronic filing fee: 29
    Total: $34,328

    Discounts:
    Car buying service discount: $250
    Factory Cash back: $1000
Lots of back and forth negotiation savings: $1978
    Total Discounts: $3,228

    Net cost before TT&L: $31,100
They allowed us to put $5000 on a 2.5% cash back card (which we paid off promptly). I guess that counts as an additional $125 discount

<edited to add model and additional sales info>

Congratulations! Are you sure you have to pay California sales tax not Arizona?

So after a lot of research (including reading large amounts of Priuschat posts) I have rejoined the Prius family. I used to own a generation 2 that I drove for 8 years and 210,000 miles. I replaced that with a Hybrid Accord. My son gets his license in January and we wanted to see add a third car and wanted a plug-in. Since I drive about 26k a year (and have access to a charger at work) I put a lot of thought into the Volt but decided on the Prime for a variety of reasons. I bought an Advanced model in red with black interior. It included the all weather floor liner package and rear bumper applique. MSRP was 34,838. Got the car for 33,144 plus throw in the shifter applique to cover the white plastic. Take off 3k Toyota rebate and 1100 NYS rebate and I was out the door for $32060 after taxes, registration and all fees but obviously before federal rebate. Very happy with the deal and already loving driving the car. Thanks to everyone here for all there helpful posts!

Never thought I would be on the Prius Prime chat forum, coming from a BMW 335i, but here we are!

    And for my first post.....

I just purchased a prime premium model in blizzard pearl.

    Here are the specs:

    MSRP $30,338
includes: $395 for special color and $248 for all weather floor liners/cargo tray
$895 delivery processing and handling fee

    Clerical/admin/doc delivery fees: $395

Agreed to price: $25,000, which includes the $3,000 Toyota rebate.

Out the door price with NJ sales tax: $27,849

Let me know if you need additional details. My purchase experience was excellent.
