Looking for recommendations for new speakers that Don't distort at the higher power levels. Not ultra expensive but something that fits the wallet. I bought door speakers from parts-express.com for my non JBL '04 which sounded excellent. way better than the JBL system in my '06. the ones I bought were the largest decent quality drivers that will fit without major surgery on the doors. I guess since you already have a killer JL sub it isn't important to get the best bass from your door speakers, but parts express has good quality drivers for a much better price than you get with name brands. I did install alpine tweeters because they fit perfectly in the door triangles and had great sound, very clear but not harsh.
ok, I tried to post a link to crutchfield for the speakers I purchased. they are the direct fit Power Bass OE65C-TY I just put those up front and they sound way better than the plastic basket paper cone stock speakers. you will need a rivet tool if you go that route as the stockers are riveted in. for the back door, I picked up a set of clearance sale kenwood 6.5" 2 way speakers for like 29$. crutchfield included the mount rings and connectors as well. car sounds much better. up next is to box some 8" subs for some deep end since I just upgraded the battery to Optima yellow top. good luck
