The ICE isn't going to die soon. Many want the refueling ease and speed, and we can make renewable fuels for them. Shift people to using electricity for their day to day fuel, and the higher costs of renewables become tolerable. When the majority of the fleet is plug ins of some kind, we might start seeing fuel cells using the available fuels start replacing ICEs as range extenders. Gas stations get by selling fuel, they make profit selling other stuff. The large stations along interstates, are going to start welcoming EVs because those people will be sitting around longer to buy that other stuff.
First hurdle is winning hearts and minds. When people tell you they "love" the sound and feel of ICE when they punch it.... how do you convince them that silent and smooth electric propulsion is better? Then there's the whole redneck pickup truck culture with dual 6" chrome plated stacks and 42" tires... have fun convincing Billy-Bob that silent/non-polluting electric is better!
You guys are ignoring the elephant in the room. The ICE isn’t going to die in the US until the oil company political action groups and their purchased government are stripped of their influence.
What about all those who park on street at night, can't get near plug at night? So much hype about electrified cars and yes they are growing a bit, but not all that much from 10 years ago. By 2030 I think there will still be mostly gas cars and trucks around unfortunately. As for emissions, did you hear 2 days worth of North Bay October 2018 fires put out as much emissions as for ALL CARS for one year in entire state of CA? That's what they're saying.

Electric has a bright future (pun almost unintended) but I wouldn't plan the funeral for the ICE juuuuust yet. In the years that I've been posting on PC.....roughly since 09, BEVs have gone from being an overly expensive, DOT approved, climate controlled golf cart.....to a compliance vehicle, and now they're on the cusp of viability. Sometime very soon, the state and federal kickbacks will no longer be necessary, and BEVs will be a clearly better choice as a daily driver. However (comma!) for the roughly forty percent of people who live in fly-over country BEVs still face challenges, and even after you slay those dragons BEVs will have to be scaled up to supplant trucks and buses, trains, planes, and ships. So.... It's still a little early to buy the cemetery plots.
If they aren't saying what emission(particulate, NOx, CO, etc.) they are looking at, then it is just clickbait level info.
