Stolen, found, beat up

Discussion in 'Gen 4 Prius Main Forum' started by iammegiam, Oct 1, 2017.

  1. Both positive and negative news. Bad news is: Farewell car.

Positive news, given that you have gap coverage: You get a fresh start, a fresh car, and... maybe some Prime owners may try to convince you to get a 17 Prime with New England incentives :D

Sorry this happened. What a shame! But glad you can get a non-wrecked car out of the deal.

I'm glad the insurance totaled it for your sake. Unfortunately someone will buy it salvage and put it back out there.

If you ever find out how it was stolen please reply or start a new thread.

This would actually be a good salvage car to buy

You know more than I do, so I'm just guessing. But I would have assumed the opposite with a floor that cannot be straightened out. Or, are you figuring that the next buyer wouldn't completely fix the frame?

Given the $8+ M verdict handed down against the body shop that glued a Honda Fit's roof instead of welding it as Honda specs, I'd hope nobody takes that car in to repair. It doesn't give me a happy feeling.

Still confused about the story of it was crashed then had the main battery stolen, or vice versa.

Need more clarity on exactly HOW it was stolen and driven off. How do you steal a Prius that requires an electronic FOB gizmo to power it up...??? And what "keys" are you guys talking about, possibly being copied? There are no keys.

Maybe I'd better get theft insurance. :ROFLMAO: But I figured nobody's gonna steal this little ugly car... (But yes, they do rip off the hybrid battery).

Addendum: all the things that could be removed and resold as spares, is what I meant.

Inspect it carefully before you get it back, and don't accept it until you are happy with the repairs. After you get it back, trade it for a new one.

@Howe Welcome to Prius Chat, tho I think you might have missed the full story. Seems like the original insurer's assessment called for a repair, however further investigation revealed damage necessitating a write-off. Not much fun all round, but a brand new car replacement means a better outcome for the OP than what was first feared. (y)

Thieves know to not mess with club. The thieves will cut your steering wheel to remove the club.

Yea you're right. I'm hoping the combination of needing to cut two spots on the wheel and bypassing alarm make them hesitate enough to go for the next car...
