A friend who just bought a Camry XLE Hybrid was told by a couple Toyota sales reps that Entune 3.0 will add Apple CarPlay (and presumably Android Auto). I poked around on my P.Prime to see whether the version of Entune is 3.0, but I couldn’t immediately find any version numbers. iPhone ? Pro
I asked a Toyota rep who called me for a Entune setup Q&A and survey. She told me 2019 as well but only for future models. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
2.x The version can be displayed on the main 11 inch screen. I forget the routine to pull it up, but I've seen it there once while playing around.
I believe I heard a reputable source say that "Camry" was getting 3.0 1st. We Primers are relegated to also-rans! Maybe that's what 2018 Primes will be getting??!! . I just Googled the Entune 3.0 app and found that it is, according to Toyota, available only on the 2018 Camry. Also, no sign of those apps some of you have been yelling for, Apple blah, blah, and Android blah, blah. Personally, it looks like the Advanced still has the "best" selection of apps/functions, even though a lot of that Entune stuff like Stock market, and Yelp, and eco master blah, blah, are useless!! It's probably a licensing thing for too much money. I'm not holding my breath; too old; like Bisco (??) said, enjoy what you've got and drive on, baby!! I don't think it's for sale, ....yet! .
If you find it, I’d be interested where... I didn’t search exhaustively, but didn’t find it in a few minutes searching. iPhone ? Pro
i realize 3.0 is on the 2018 camry and probably coming to everything in the future. i have not heard anything from toyota about CarPlay except 'absolutely not'.
Entune 3.0 equipped cars will be DCM (Data Communications Module) so I don't think it's backwards compatible (or at least we'll get software updates but won't be able to gain full access to the features). I'm not sure if Safety Connect counts as part of DCM. Entune 3.0 will bring what Lexus owners have had for almost 10 years now under the "Lexus Enform" brand name (but of course there will be new features). Sad to say, didn't see anything in Entune 3.0 that is worth my trouble or money. I'll stay with my Garmin GPS, which albeit isn't perfect, but does try to regularly update the maps, for free (lifetime maps and traffic monitoring updates!!). All that other junk: Yelp, Facebook, stocks, sports, etc., they can keep!! Give me Google Search, give me remote monitoring of my odometer reading, give me actual, easy-to-use mileage figures for gasoline usage, give me a full complement of gauges like tach, oil/water temp, alternator status, gauges to monitor acceleration and cornering dynamic performance, and of course, MORE battery capacity and performance using much lighter weight. Don't forget my noise-cancelling system so car will be even quieter without the extra weight of soundproofing!! And solar panels to keep car cool when parked. And Toyota, please start a campaign to ban ALL self-driving cars; the streets are dangerous enough without the addition of scarier-than-hell, hackable moving bombs!! Hey if somebody is willing to risk their own lives riding around in these self-driving coffins, that's their business; when they try to risk my life, on the streets I drive on, that's MY business!! .
Funny. There was a "Bing Search" function on Display Audio systems (circa 2012). Did they get rid of that with the current head units? (I forget). Dynamic Navigation attempts to give you that free update but it only updates an area 2 sq. km around you and downloads/updates as you drive.
PS, City Navigator North America NT 2018.3 came out yesterday. Garmin speak folks, nothing to see here for the Prime.
Yeah I saw the "updates" "feature?". Not impressed; garmin takes about 1/2 hour to update the GPS unit via USB to my desktop. Problem is none of these companies have truly "updated" info; you really notice it here in Socal where we're constantly getting new street construction. They seem to rely on people filing complaint reports of inaccuracies!! Then they update on THEIR schedule. The built-in GPS systems are exponentially worse!! . On your "Bling search" comment, my 2012 PIP didn't have it, nor does my Advanced. Even though I'm a PC specialist, I despise Microsoft, so doubt it's functionality/utility!
No Carplay that I could find. This 3.0 thing seems mainly an attempt at standardization across all models and supposed continuous updating; from the info I read,I'm not impressed ! The apps appear to be the same limited and useless ones we have. There also appear to be a few minor features added, but nothing to justify ANY fee. ☹ .
