I purchased my new Prius Prime Advanced in June 2017. The air conditioning compressor failed in August (2000 miles on the vehicle). The dealership had to order parts and kept it for two weeks. A couple of weeks later I noted that the windshield washing fluid did not spray out of the drivers side nozzle. The dealer had to order parts and it took two weeks and three trips to the dealership to get this repaired. This morning, about 25 miles into my 30 mile commute (sunny and clear day), I got a "Clean Parking Assist Sensor" error message with beeping and caution lights. I'm not enjoying this Prius. I drove my last Prius for 12 years, best car ever. The repairs are all under warranty, of course, but time consuming and disappointing.
welcome to the first year of a new generation. unfortunately, there have been many problems reported. (this isn't your father's toyota) all the best down the road!
Welcome to the site. The A/C and washer physical failures are unfortunate, but they happen on all vehicles. Own enough of them, and you'll get them. It does not make the whole vehicle a failure. Yes, it's a slap when it happens on a brand new car but so is the first bird poop, or door ding. The sensor warning was for your protection. This vehicle has safety systems that use sensors to measure distances for various reasons. If a sensor gets dirty, it's going to tell you about it. It's for your protection.
Really? I'm considering purchasing a Prius Prime and one reason I'm going with this over other PHEVs is the Toyota reliability. My 2nd generation Prius went 210,000 without issue. Have there really been many problems reported?
there actually have, and you can read all about them right here in the prime forums. did you read the o/p? that being said, toyota is still rated very highly. unfortunately, no one is perfect. don't expect 200k trouble free miles, but be happy if you get it.
I did read the o/p and the threads in this forum. Always hard to gauge reliability from just a handful of posts. I also follow a Chevy Volt forum and it seems there is a problem posted there every day. One of the main reasons I'm going with the Prime over the Volt is the assumption that the Toyota is going to hold up better over 200,000 miles.
couldn't agree more. and the good thing about first gen bugs is that they are under warranty. although there have been a few that toyota can't seem to fix, such as cracking windshields and rebooting large screen displays.
7500 miles and no issues. It did tell me to clean my sensors one time. I almost feel like they programmed that to come on once early on to get people acquainted with it (probably not true but it seems several people get this warning one time early in ownership). Sometimes i hear loud noises in the wheel well, but those end up being pebbles and it seems loud because the car is so quiet.
Keep in mind that the statistics are skewed in a forum - people come to a forum to ask questions about a problem they have. That being said, the most questions asked were about the 11.6" screen rebooting and the "Clean Sensors" warning screen (usually during or after driving in heavy rain like a thunderstorm)
My Prius Prime had a wheel fall off today. Is that expected? Background: I had the car serviced in Sept for the 10000 mile mark. Within a week ago my wife heard a ticking noise in the front right wheel well area. Today it became a bit louder and I tried to drive it in to the service station few miles away. By the time I reached 100 meters away from the dealership,the car stalled. Re-started the car and the wheel just popped out. Had to wait 4 hours for "Toyota" to help tow it 400 meters to the shop. "Toyota -care" was a major let down to say the least. I'm numb!
welcome! sounds like they forgot to tighten the lug nuts after rotating the tires. then the loose wheel caused the traction system to stop the car for safety. i would have a talk with whoever did the service. toyota care is just a marketing scam
I put 48k miles on my 2017 Prime Premium over 23 months, and never had a single defect or problem. That's been my experience with just about every Toyota I've owned. My parents have a 2012 Camry Hybrid with 112k miles and haven't had to do anything except oil and tires.
