Sure, you should get (borrowed) OBD2 adapter compatible with Carista. Many people have it already, mine cost me $20 and it is working.
And you'd need to buy a smart phone or tablet if you do not have one. ;)

Would be nice if Toyota would somehow design the system so new sensors, say on snow tires, could be initialized with a few in-the-dash button pushes. So many things like this, sail right by them.

IS the TPMS function now final? does Carista have TPMS registration function? How does it work? I need phone, carista, dongle right? Anything else? Do I need to store the numbers of the current TPMS sensors?

By the way the manual of my Europe’s Prius says “Registering ID codes (vehicles with the tire pressure warning system) The ID codes of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters for two sets of wheels can be registered. It is not necessary to register the ID codes when replacing normal tires with snow tires, if the ID codes for the wheels of both normal tires and snow tires are registered beforehand. For information about changing ID codes, ask any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.”

So if I get another set of rims and tires there is only one visit I need to do to TOYOTA service to register a second set of sensor correct?

    That is not so bad

You have to inflate your tyres to the preferred pressure then reset the TPMS via the car's own settings menu, no Carista required.

Sounds like whoever wrote that manual copied the text from another Toyota vehicle. Some top end Toyota/Lexus vehicles do support multiple sets of TPMS IDs. The vehicles that have this feature have a switch in the glove compartment to select which set of IDs is active. I suspect that this is a documentation error, not a new feature for the Prius :(

I hope you're not right, but suspect you are. I'd take that feature over something like autonomous parking, any day.

I just got decent price on 4 Dunlop Winter Response 2 tiers, 15" rims and TPMS sensors. By end of next week they should be on and I will know for sure about the two sets of TPMS sensors on Prius 4.

PS I really love the rims. PT945-47160 hyper black double spoke alloys rims.

Ok, Prius is now in winter attire.

The dealer said they can program two set of tires into the computer. I now have sensors in the the summer and winter tires. I will see in spring if I need to go to dealer again. Hopefully not :)

Fantastic photo. Toyota should use that for publicity. (y)

Actually they should do better job advertising rims and accessories. I could not find a decent photos of these rims. I liked them on the Toyota dealer photos above but it is hard to visualize what these things would look like on the car.

Sounding like some of the overseas Gen4 have the fancy TMPS allowing two sets of tires. I wonder if that is somehow against USA TPMS legal rules.

    Here's my solution:

Easy solution $82 and I use them on the snows and on the summer wheels, and I get to see the temp of each tyre! (…whoop de bloody doo!) ;)

So, just put snow wheels on the wife’s rave4 hybrid, the jobber took the new tpms to the wheels on the car, registered the “numbers” of the wheels on the car, then set the new tpms to the same codes as the tpmc’s on The car, now the car accepts both sets of wheels, the tpms are 22.50$ each.

I have the same rims on my winter tyres (Nokian Hakkapeliitta NR2 195/65R15).
I think they look great, better than the original ones.

How did it go with tpms this spring?

Bought my car a couple of weeks ago (It was a toyota dealership test drive car gen4 2016 with 18 000km on it).
So everything is original toyota parts on this one.

I have 8 tpms sensors and after changing to summer tyres the yellow light is now on.
On winter tyres it was fine.
Will not reset from the menu.

    So many questions:
    1. from how far do these work? I now have the winter tyres in my garage so does it find all 8 evey time I start?

    2. on the winter tyres the pressure was 2,5 bar front 2,4 rear (R15 rims and in the cold pressure drops, so that’s about right, I guess).
Summer tyres are R17 with 2,2 bars in front and 2,1 back (I think I’ll use a bit higher though, cold nights here even in the summer).
But does the tpms system have different pressure setting for each tyre or how is this supposed to work?
I think it is possible to add 8 tyres to this system.

    3. How long does it take for the system to notice that it has wrong pressure (or no tyres at all)? 20 minutes :D?

    4. Does the system warn only on too low pressure? Not too high?

So I just switched to summer tyres and went for a drive.
After 20 or so minutes the yellow tpms warning lit up (not blinking).
Tried resetting in the shopping center garage (away from my winter tyres). Will not do it from the menu, no matter how long I press the reset. Will not do it at home either.
When I start the car, yellow tpms warning blinks for a minute or so and then stays on.

So a trip to the dealership? Or is there something to try first?
And do I have to haul all 8 tyres there? f... :D

Come to think of it, I drove home when I bought the car with all 8 tyres in/on the car and the tpms light was not on,
So it could also be that the summer tyres are not coded into the system at all.
But probably there’s no way to check myself?

TPMS was made mandatory in factory installation tires in 2015 by the EU.
But here in Finland it took just one year for it to be cancelled in 2016, so now it doesn’t matter.

I would like to have these removed completely.
TPMS systems and lights are now totally ignored in all official inspections here.
So that was a very useful law for us :D.

Here everybody has 8 to 9 tyres of different sizes on every car they own.
And since we can have temperature variations of 30 degrees celsius (0,3 bars) within 24 hours up here, it took just one year and everybody gave up. Blinking madness and a trip to the dealer twice a year.

Much better to spend that money on new tyres than stupid sensors.
Doesn’t work and will not work here at all.

But there is no way to turn that yellow light off even at the dealership, thats what they told me.
Even if I remove all sensors.

    -sigh-
This is the probably the only thing that does not and will not ever work on my Prius. In every other way it’s the best.

@Jeppefinn its ”fun”with -14 Auris. Car can only remember 4 tyres in memory and its 40€ here at Espoo dealer to program new ones when summer / winter tires are changed.

I tried to program TPMS codes with techstream and mini-vci but no luck, techstream keeps telling me that initialization is going on etc and i have to connect TC and CG pinf for 30secs from obd2 port. Yeah i did it but messed up the pins and ended up with C1203 and C1345 code and no regen brakes at all :S
Luckily i found great info from here that car has to re-learn brakes and that can be done with TS and CG pins jumped, luckily that fixed issue.
Might be that my mini-vci is just missing some protocol support etc since tpms codes cannot be stored, always same error.

So i think my only option is then to push 80€ yearly to dealer or just ignore yellow light :S

Yup. But I think this gen4 can remember 8 tyres.

So I still have a small glimmer of hope that this could be resolved with just one visit to the dealership.
If they can input all tyres and different pressures for them?

Not going to pay 80 euros per year for this.
Though they might fix it for free once a year when I go in for an oil change.
Do you know if this is included in the yearly maintenance visit?
    Thank You/Kiitos.

I think most cars now only remember 4 or 5 tyres. Some people here have bought programmable TPMS sensors and cloned the IDs
If your country does not require TPMS then black tape is an option. Programming TPMS would not likely be covered under Toyota’s included maintenance.

You should have tpms ”learning” button on you car, with that you can reset the light if it only is on now because pressure difference from winter tires. I have it on left at glove box.

On Auris they changed car so that -15 on, it remembers 8 tires. I bet Your Prius remembers 8 tires.
