I have noticed that I keep having to turn on the auto headlight feature. Once on it works fine, but on another night trip, it's off and I have to reset it. I don't drive much at night, but it seems to happen each time I start a new trip. I thought at first I might have hit the switch opening the gas cap, but that's not the case. Isn't this supposed to stay on unless I turn it off or is this the way the feature is designed?
it's called auto-dim ... it means that it need to be On to work. You need the auto-dim switch to be On AND ALSO the stalk on the steering wheel set to High Beam position... if the auto-dim is On and the stalk is set on low-beam .. nothing will happen.
I understand that. The stalk is on high beam. The problem is that when I press the button for auto-dim, it seems to switch off when I cut off the engine and I had to switch it back on the next time I drive after dark.
The button for auto-dim is an always on or always off. Once you turn it on, it will only turn off if you press it again to turn it off.
Oh .. that's odd ...mine stays on all the time , but i noticed that it super sensitive and does not need a big push on the button to turn it Off / On
I thought about that and wondered at first if I had but it when I popped the gas cap, but it has happened even when I didn't get gas (love the gas mileage!).
When the button is on the 'on' position can you feel that it is slightly lower than the other buttons around it? and when you go to use it and its not working does it still feel recessed or feel flush with the other buttons and are you having to click off and click on again to get it to work?
That must have been it. They worked fine last night. I'll just be careful getting in. Thanks for solving the mystery.
I've done it myself, I don't usually have Auto Hi-beams on but I have occasionally accidentally caught the button with my knee and turned them on.
