Love the site and all the info posted...I've have been loving all the info as I look at possibly purchasing my first used 07 Prius. This blue beauty has 161k miles from 2 owners (1st owner sold at 120k). The current owner lists the Prius as a Touring/Package 3. The current owner provided me with all the maintenance records since the car was bought new by the first owner in 07. I spent about 90+ mins with the owner and the car this past week. We both went to a certified Toyota dealer this afternoon and had a basic $40/45min inspection completed. According to the dealer today, the only thing that was recommended/be considered to be replaced was the water pump ($340 estimate for parts and labor from the dealer). The recommendation was based on the technician listening to the engine/pump and he indicated a sound that was of concern. This same concern was noted at 120k miles 2 years ago by a different dealer on the other of side of town. No leaks or low fluid levels have every been reported concerning the water pump.? The main battery was not tested as that is part of a $120/3hr inspection. The 12V battery tested out just fine. The car seems to be very well cared for inside and out. Some very minor dings on the outside. Interior is in great shape too. All components/gadgets/electrical gauges and such seem to be all working (windows, door locks, AC/heat, CD player, blue tooth all function). Comes with an extra set of tires and they too checked out just fine along with the current tires on the vehicle. We have come to a tentative agreement that $6,200 seems reasonable. Does that sound like a fair price for both parties? Feel free to ask me questions or provide advice/suggestions/the truth. Thanks again for your time and for all the posts on Prius Chat. Bill C.
Car seems to be well cared for, but you are taking over at where the car would need parts replaced. For example 1. Shocks 2. Brakes 3. Spark plugs 4. coolant 5. Possible bearings 6. Inverter pump 7. 3 way valve 8. Water pump 9. Catalytic converter 10 hv battery
Great point - I believe the brakes checked out good today at the dealership. Also, pretty sure the plugs and coolant have been changed recently. I will check the maintenance records for the rest of the items on the list. Thank you.
Also you have to verify if the car is a touring model. Many list that to get more money. Touring models should have 16" wheels
Really......?? I checked KB and the private party suggested price was at $6100 for a car in this condition...and the Wisconsin Prius market maybe makes them a touch more pricey...not sure. Thank for the input.
What does KBB or NADA have to say about pricing for your zipcode(s). Does rust appear out of thin air up there, as this might be something to look out for. The 'Touring Model" might also have white and pink stripes on the shocks, and a slightly wider aero wing thing - or you can take the VIN online to Toyota Owners Official Web Site for more info. There is also a 1mm difference in the diameter of the rear (hollow) sway bar on the touring model, the front may also be of a larger size.
Thank you....I just read that on another posting on this site too...I just messaged the seller to verify that that Touring info is correct.
KBB tends to overprice things. I use Edmunds. They say a 2007 Prius Touring in Clean condition with 160,000 miles and every optional feature added is worth $4266 from a private party.
Here in California, that car will sell for more than $5000, possibly $6000. Just keep in mind the repairs that the car will need in the near future....probably before 200k comes around
Seems high. Mine is an 06 with 160K and has leather and I think fair for mine would be $4200-$5000. $6200 is quite high. I would expect that price from a Toyota Dealership but not private seller. 2007 Toyota Prius 4-Door Liftback - cars & trucks - by dealer - vehicle automotive sale 2007 Toyota Prius Touring 105K Miles, Leather, Nav, B/U Cam - cars & trucks - by dealer - vehicle automotive sale 2009 *TOYOTA**PRIUS* HATCHBACK GAS SAVER 99K GOOD TIRES CD 482836 - cars & trucks - by dealer - vehicle automotive sale
We verified the Touring by looking at the struts and springs with the associated color coding. Thank you.
Plugging in private party values for Green Bay, as an example....kbb has the range from $4.5k to $5.1k, depending on the condition being between good and very good. Even using excellent condition as the barometer, the price is $5.6k. Look here.
Don't buy the owners repair cost, buy the cars book value. $4k seems fair. For the price your paying you may as previously mentioned try a dealership and maybe up the funds to a Gen 3. Just my. 02 SM-G935P ?
What is the car worth? --drive it to Carmax and have them do a trade in ( they will buy it for the price quoted) inspection. I wouldn't be surprised if the number is 1/2 of what the owner is asking. Ebay, sold , listings gives a person an idea of what the market is for a Prius with that mileage- Toyota Prius in Cars & Trucks | eBay
I just did a nationwide search on cargurus website for 2006-2009 Prii - and dealer prices for a Prius with 150K + or - 10K miles is a lot less than $6000. Only those priced around $3000 were listed as a good deal- and this is dealer asking prices-
This is how I purchased my preowned Prius. The price was basically what Carmax offered, which usually represents the trade in price. However, this is not usually something that owners will allow potential buyers to do. And you're correct that the local Carmax will likely offer the owner $2,700 for the car, which is less than half of what he is asking. Trade in value here.
I am a newbie here but wanted to let you know that I bought 2008 carvana certified prius with 67K miles in $8500 a week before. It has the backup camera, navigation, leather seats, JBL sound system, alloy wheels.
