Please share about manifold and EGR cleaning.
Is it relate with oil consumption?

Basically, My priusIII has the problem about oil consumption(10 oz per 2,000 miles) and loos the power when engine work. I found in technical discussion that manifold & EGR cleaning can solve this problem. I used to changed the PCV valve. The engine power came back around 5% and oil consumption decrease to 5 oz per 2,000 miles.

    Please share your idea. Thanks

I have a 2011 with about 150k and have not had an oil burning issues even going 10K (which I don't do anymore) but when I cleaned out the manifold there was a pool of oil below the throttle body. I cleaned out the EGR pipe and replaced the PCV valve. Will do the EGR valve this weekend. The engine does seem to feel smoother but that is with my seat gauge and nothing scientific.

I just today removed the EGR valve and heater and while it was not that difficult I would say the very bottom hidden bolt is a true pain to get rethreaded when putting it back together. The heater wasn't completely plugged but it was quite dirty but nothing a few cans of brake cleaner wouldn't make look like new.

2k miles since I did this on mine. No oil in bottom of throttle body thanks to the catch can, no apparent change in performance, mpg up 3 but that could be the cooler weather and not the work performed. Had no oil consumption before this, did the work as preventive.

Side note: I left the bottom bolt out when reinstalled the egr. 30 minutes saved next time this is done.

Well I just completed one tank of gas after replacing my PVC valve and cleaning my intake manifold, EGR pipe, EGR valve, and EGR cooler and I calculated my highest MPG ever! I calculated the actual tank MPG at 54.582. Dash was reporting 59.1 which was the highest I ever got on the dash but my speedometer is off by about 2 mpg so they both agree

YES I used @NutzAboutBolts video plus I used a small magnet inside my socket to hold the nut from falling out while I rethreaded that crazy hidden 12mmnut that is hidden below the cooler. I actually dropped the bolt and my socket twice and it actually made it to the plastic cover and with a few bumps and taps it actually fell out.

    Thank you friend.

If I want to manifold clean, Can I clean the throttle body too? If I do that, are there effect with idle speed? If yes, can you advise to reset idle speed without OBD?

I removed my throttle body and cleaned it with a rag and a little carb cleaner. It was almost spotless with just a little varnish at the pivot points. I didn't notice any different idle speeds and didn't disconnect my battery.

Last week, I was cleaned manifold, throttle and EGR pipe by Toyota dealer in Thailand(PriusIII). The power of engine came back around 5-10%(my filling).

When complete re-assemble. The dash shown "Check Hybrid System". 1 Toyota engineer took the computer to connect to socket under the steering wheel and read the code. I don't know the program and what does he done? After that error on dash was disappear.

My question. If I do again by myself, does the dash will show error again? If it show, How can I do? Can you suggest the program or connector to connect with PriusIII? Where can I buy that?

Just came over from the TDI (diesel) world. Gese, do these cars run cleaner. I wouldn't even think of doing this procedure with that little build up on a TDI. I didn't catch how many miles were on the car in the vid. When are most people doing this?

Only my filling when I drive my car, start filling for loose the power on 40,000KM(25,000Mile). But more loose power fill on 100,000KM(62,500Mile).

my recommend should be 100,000KM(62,500mile). Any person comment?

At almost 30k, I got my first "rattle" engine start up today. I'm pretty sure I caused it. Prior to this start up, I had moved my car to the front of my house and turned it off just as the engine started to cycle on. Later on I went to leave for work and the rattle happened. I have been warned that one should let the engine cycle up before a short turn off. Lesson learned.

That's about right. I had the startup knock and cleaned mine at 73k. At the time it was a newly purchased car.

My loose power start on 25Kmile. But I remember that service engineer told me on last 3 years that my manifold is not completely fix. There are 1 gap from air filter assemble.

I think that is the cause for loose power and a bit dirty of throttle body.

By the way, I'm not sure that is the 1 cause for my prius3 was oil burned situation.

I had a problem 2 years ago where my 2011 C would shudder at low speeds/low battery levels. This was with ~120K miles on the car. Turns out the shuddering was the ICE failing to start/stalling at low rpm's. It never once threw a code, but the engine was very, very rough. I brought it to the dealer three times before I managed to exhaust my battery (basically sat in the parking lot for an hour with everything on). Turns out it was caused by an EGR/Manifold issue. They replace both and I have never had the problem since.

Cost me $700 to fix. BUT about a month after I had it repaired I got a letter from Toyota about a service campaign for "some" vehicles that have been exhibiting the same issues. Sent in the paperwork and corporate reimbursed me for the repair.

So if you've had it done I would have the dealer look up the campaign and see if they can get it reimbursed (or done for free if it's not yet been done).

    good luck,

    steve

Hi Guys, I picked up a 2012 Prius V last month with 51k miles and just realized the amount of components that need maintenance / cleaning on the Gen 3 when compared to my Gen 2. So far I've gathered that I would need to clean the intake manifold / throttle body as well as the EGR valve and Cooler periodically to keep it running good as I plan on keeping it for a while. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Is there anything else I need to pay attention to?
    2. How often do you recommend cleaning each of these components out?

I also plan on doing a drain and fill of the transmission fluid during the next oil change when I have it up on jack stands.
