Clicking Sound on Regen Braking

Ok I finally got a video of it making the noise as it seems loud lately. I rolled down the window and applied the brakes from about 40 MPH. Anyone elses prius makes this noise? I have a 2016 prius with 23K on the ODO. 2 dealerships say its normal

Get your dealer to get Toyota involved.. Why do I say this? 2016, 37K miles, reported before 36K. Dealer couldnt troubleshoot without toyota help.
I have just returned from dealer with new left axle. Clicking gone. I signed up to post this.

Your sound was my sound I would say without a doubt, trusting video sound. My work order states "TAS case opened and we are to follow up with chassis ears and listen to the axle." after listening they deemed left axle bad and that did fix it,

I just asked my wife if she recognized the sound (having no clue what she was listening to on video), she confirmed same sound.

 

Wife confirms anything, show me the man who'll argue with that!!

Whew! I thought you were suggesting glueckeing the viel besser than before to stop the clicken.

 

This issue also appears on gen3 models.
Only Left hand side on my cases, its an axle but where and what exactly on an axle I cannot say.
Would be great to observe if someone has a chance to upload a picture of ticking sound maker axle upon replacing with new axle.

 

I did notice it does seem to happen on theirs as well and one person that owned 4 prii in the past said all of his made this noise. The two dealerships I already took my car said its a normal prius sound. There seems to be a general concensus that most prii do not and just a handful of ours do make this noise.

 

To sum it up, this has been an ongoing problem for many years and should be known to Toyota.

Those people that have Prii with the noise should get it fixed under warranty without having to getting all kinds of from dealerships.

so I have similar noise went to one dealer from where I bought the car... twice and technician says cant hear.. 2nd time I drove with technician and I could hear and and he says he cannot...I complained to manager he says go to another dealership...today went to another dealership the technician hears it but not ready to fix says its very faint noise then argues with me that its the plastic part of alloy which is touching the discs(what a BS)..then says its already 4 and we cannot fix it right now come on another day...then I got Mondays time but dealers are clever they did not write me anything so that it does not come in record that the technician heard the noise..now going on Monday morning..

I have 35700 miles not sure they will create an issue if it passes 36k mark

 

Finally another dealership technician agreed there is noise and afer checking the car for whole day they agreed its an issue and issue is in left axle .. replacement part being ordered under warranty

 

Glad I found this post, I started getting this noise after I took the Prius on a long trip to FL with 25000 on the clock, took it to dealership and he couldn’t hear noise, we drove in a loud polluted noise area. Gonna make an appointment for them to fix this. I’ll let you know how it goes.

 

Great news, I used the video I posted in an earlier post of my car making the noise and they determined the noise is not normal. They put it on the lift and they said they could hear it plain as day. If someone else is having the issue, have them throw it on the lift and accelerate and brake and hopefully they can find the noise right away. When the service advisor called, he said its a 6 hour repair so I imagine its the same as others had replaced that fixed the issue. Thanks for your help and looking forward to having my quiet Prius back. No rental since they said its "not a safety issue" but under warranty. I'm sure I could have pushed for a loner but I'm ok without one.

 

ToyotaCare says you are entitled to a free loaner if they need to keep your car for a covered repair. They do not mention safety issues at all.

 

My 2016 have the clicking sound when braking while turning right. It also clicks when braking while turning left.

 

Ok Great news, car is finally fixed and here's what they did to fix mine:

They first off said they heard the noise coming from the right axle and replaced the right axle shaft assembly (passenger side). Excitedly I jumped in my car and was driving it back home after the repair and guess what, the noise was still apparent. I made a brand new recording and let my service advisor as well as their tech who just replaced it hear it, took him on test drive # 2 and then he said he's ordering the other side and replacing that as well. Now that the drivers side has been replaced, the noise is now all gone! Here are the youtube videos showing the difference.
