ThAnks for the feedback! Strange thing, this was the second time and AFAIK nothing was different. My wife speculated it might depend on how long you have things disconnected?

    Who knows. It drives ok.

Acetic acid is a weak acid and when combined with something basic, you'll get a reaction. In this case, gas evolution occurs, creating the frothing effect.

Through this reaction, it will inhibit the effect of either components or weaken their effectiveness.

I would do one at a time;).

Works on various process equipment in a chemical plant(y).

In all your tools you don't have a code reader (n)?

Maybe a Christmas gift idea for Mrs. Mendel Leisk;).

Just hope it doesn't end up on the shrine with the PIP wheels(y).

Still working on that. Maybe just in my mind...

What's a good code reader for Prius? Is there something worthwhile, or is laptop and Techstream only??

For the CEL, I have a standard code reader (Kiwi2 with Dash Command App for my iPhone). Had it left over from some troubleshooting I was doing on the wife's old 4runner. But I'm $40 in on this setup.

I have seen the CEL light up on our 2010 Prius II with 163 k miles and had been P050A and P0171 every time. But I carry the Kiwi2 cord in the car just in case it is needed.

I also have an old laptop with a Chinese J2534 cable. Haven't found a need to use it yet, but have it for when I do;). This option was $17 as the old laptop was going to the Ewaste bin.

I have seen the VXDiag cable in action and it is smooth:). But it is a little more $$$ ($80-$100 for the cable and you need an old laptop). So it depends on your needs or preference.

I guess if you gave the missus the option for Christmas presents, the one she got you would tell you something:whistle:,

    I'm pulling for you(y).

Not sure if you want to spend the money but I have a Scangauge installed. I got hooked when they first came out and started throwing codes on my Tundra and have found them always useful. Between monitoring different parameters to reading and resetting codes I find them very useful but if you just want a code reader on the expensive side. I always monitor the engine and inverter temp, my 12V battery and the state of charge for the hybrid battery.

Hah, I have a scangauge, never thought to check codes with it. It's been disconnected for at least a couple of years now, was possibly causing problems when constantly plugged in. But maybe I could see what caused the check engine light with it? I'll look into it, hook it up temporarily, see what I can find.

It's puzzling to me, what would cause a CEL, and then dismiss it. I'm speculating it's due to disconnecting and then reconnecting the various sensors? The pins don't quite make contact at the initial start up?

    Hey everyone.
So im having same engine rattling again. Its been 12k miles since all work was done including new head gasket. New egr valve, new spark plugs, new coils and more.
    Dealer Cleaned egr cooler .
I cleaned IM, TB, egr pipe.
    Not replaced pcv valve.
Car was great i got up to 58 mpg fwy driving. Felt like new.
Today car started to hasitate. Check engine came again .code checked is p0301 again. No coolant level drop.
Car rattles in the morning or for few seconds of acceleration from stop though engine is warm.
Only thing i think of now is probably bad gasoline or pcv valve. Using same arco gasoline so im not sure thats the reason.
Got to go back to dealer again. My extended warranty of 12k miles i got from last repair almost expires.

Could be bad gasoline. More likely it's oil in the intake. Do you have an OCC installed?

I haven't had the startup death rattle for over 6 months. This is because of the OCC I installed in June.

In other words: you're concerned the Oil Catch Can will result in a failed inspection? I guess this is a possibility, but is puzzling to me, considering that properly installed, non-vented OCC shouldn't have any effect on emissions.

I wonder what the outcome would be, if you went through an emissions check with (non-vented) OCC in place? Do they even pop the hood?

Could you install it below the intake manifold, get one that's not flashy? Or Plasti-Dip it mat-black? Reduce the amount of clamps used, especially on those super-tenacious hose barbs? Maybe it would not even be noticed.

FWIW, my Moroso can came with a disclaimer, saying it possibly voids emissions regulations. In reality, I don't see how it does.

@Mendel Leisk the other reason i wasnt in a rush to install the OCC was because car was still ynder warranty and i been to the dealer twice rerecently. I wanted them to do the egr valve for free. You know what they say if they saw that.
