From reading these discussions, it seems like there are a lot of technical people here. I teach physics and math. It seems like many of you are involved in science, engineering, etc areas.

I hope this isn't in the wrong place. I was wondering for the Prime specifically. Many people own a Prius, but the Prime seems to attract a more targeted group of people.

I kind of agree, I am a huge nerd and a programmer. But a lot of the Prius drivers I see just seem like not the kind of people that would hang out here having technical discussions about the car. This site probably just attracts a lot of the enthusiasts, whereas a lot of other people probably think we are insane for spending time talking about a car many people wouldn't even want.

Shame on you!! Easy way out !!

    .
Of course Mr. Eagle, I'm kidding! Thinking back, my first wife and I truly didn't have a lot in common except that we both did like cars and she eventually contracted my alfaholism! I loved the 1969 Alfa Romeo series and had a 1969 Spider, and 1969 GTV, and she ended up asking for a Berlina ( the then-current Italian police car!) 4 door, with dual barking Webers. She loved dusting Nissan Z cars, and BMWs, and could still haul all the kids, while getting mileage in the '30s. We gave up those 3 great cars when we divorced. My late 2d wife did own a Lexus Stupid Useless Vehicle, but did help me purchase my white 2012 PIP before she passed. Interesting recollections !!
All right, I was optician for 2 years, engineering tech at Chevron for 3 years, Luxury car/RV salesman for 23 years, IT specialist for 32 years (my own company), French translator off and on, music composer, producer, and performer 55 years, oh yeah and lucky dad to 3 great kids!! Learned to work on my '69 Alfas on my own, from shock absorbers, brakes, fuel injection service, tune ups, and even changed a Spica fuel pump in the middle of Nebraska, on my 1750 Spider Veloce?!! I had brought 3 used pumps and all my tools as they were a weak link in the fuel injection system. 2000 mile trip to a Minnesota wedding.!! The car was hit by a drunk Minnesotian, 3 miles from our destination, at 11:30 at night, in a thunderstorm!! We had to fly back home...
Oh and I will continue to work and play music til I croak!

My desire for hybrid is tempered by my need to carry the ladders, the v is best for cargo. Now that I am retired, I do not drive enough to buy a hybrid, good thing I own one already.

The best of all worlds is the Highlander hybrid, as the rear window can open. Perfect for hauling;).

I tried that tact and tried to emphasize the extra row of seats, but then we went to the Lexus dealer:whistle:.

SHE drives the anti-Prius, her company car is a Tahoe with a towing package. I can get 15.5 MPG if I work at it. But the company pays for the gas.

Retired now, was primarily a structural draftsman in consulting companies, then got into steel detailing (for various steel fabricators), then moved over to mostly checking, both for detailers and then back to consulting structural.

This 2010 is my first Prius, first Toyota too, had nothing but Honda before.

My back is really sore right now, just got everything back together after an EGR cleaning.

I remembering seeing a thread months back about prime age groups with the parent hypothesizing that most prime owners were over the hill. With that in mind the easiest way to explain my job to all the old fogies in this forum: internet plumber.

39, have spent 17 years as an "engineer" at an isp and do a bit of programming as well. My first Toyota and hybrid, loving the computer on wheels.

Middle aged geographer who is into science and skepticism, but I suck at math and would have made a horrible engineer. Some of the threads about electricity and charging go right over my head.

I think Prius Prime owners tend to be engineers because a Prius Prime is a brand new car that costs over $30k. It also has the perceived requirement of plugging in which tilts towards homeowners. Therefore, you need a highly skilled job with a college degree to be able to afford the car and the parking spot with a plug to put it in. Generally speaking, of course.

15 years ago, this was true of the Prius as well but now used examples can be purchased by all demographics.
