2012 priusV. 65k miles. The noise is present when transitioning from ev mode to ICE. I've replaced plugs drivers side axle , trans fluid, cleaned egr tube and intake manifold. Dealer says new trans is needed for 6,400.00 Cost me 400 just to tell me that. No slipping or codes. I will try to upload a video clip
There is no warranty left. I think Toyota really doesn't want to deal with repairs so they overprice jobs to the point it's really comical They make their money on changing oil and power streeting fluid. I'm just gonna drive it till something breaks. Then I will know what to fix. ??
Were this a manual transmission, I would say it was a separated and flailing clutch surface. As it is, appears to be from the CVT, which overruns under load. A solenoid/clutch pack, perhaps. Does the sound continue at speed, or go away?
It goes away at a higher rpm but as you reach the speed you want and ease off the accelerator it begins the grinding noise. Only while the ICE is running. It runs smooth at idle
If so, it appears to be in the CVT overrunning clutch. Might find a removing original and installing a replacement unit to be thousands less expensive than what dealer quoted.
Wait. Small world. You had this car for sale on Craigslist and told me via text that the repair would be, "500-1500 worse case scenario". And you sent me pics of an old Carfax that didn't show any of the repairs that had been done when your report was pulled, but I found them when I pulled it myself. When I asked you about the airbag light that was on in your photo you said, "It goes off after a few seconds." But when I pulled the service records, I found "MISC.REPAIR ~|~CUST STATES AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON ~|~FOUND THE LEFT SIDE SEAT AIR BAG ASSY FAILING ~|~REC REPLACING THE LEFT SEAT AIR BAG ASSY, EST 792.99".
