Searched the Lexus threads and didn't run across one of this nature, so thought I would create one! Had Suntek Clear film installed on our 2017 Lexus RX450h this morning: Hard to tell it is there. Should make the Caviar colored paint last a little longer.
Nothing. But if you want to know the last thing I did to my Lexus, I replaced the windshield a few days ago for the second time in 3 years.
That's unfortunate . Is there that much curvature difference in the CT to make it susceptible? I'm concerned about a rock getting in between the grill openings and getting the radiator.
I don't think so. I just drive a LOT. In all my time driving, I've never had any issues with debris through my grill.
How many miles on the CT? We just traded our old 4runner with 264 k miles on it in on the RX. We have 161 k miles on our 2010 Prius. I know the feeling of driving a lot. Here's the openings on the grill of the RX: Those gaps are over an inch wide. I have a bra on the front of our Prius which has served us well over the 8 years we have owned it.
Well that's a good bit of miles! I think I'll look into grill inserts to close the gaps. Just started to look on eBay after looking at your pics and it gave me some ideas. Now just need to convince the wife.
Just be careful not to impede airflow to the radiator or the engine air intake. I think that's why some cars that come with active grill shutters only close at high speeds. I'm guessing at low speeds, there's not enough airflow so the shutters have to be open.
Agreed. The engine air intake flows over the top of the grill area and under the hood: It appears that when the hood closes, it blocks any inlet from the grill area (where the vents are cut into the plastic anyway). But my plan is to address the center section of the grill that has the massive holes that have no angle and to prevent rock penetration (they sell some kits on eBay for that section) and keep the integrity of the upper grill. Good insight .
Hey, no problem! Glad you're on top of things! I noticed the same thing on my CT as far as air intake. Otherwise, your lower grill is pretty wide open. I wonder if the hybrid needs more cooling at the radiator level due to the second cooling system for the inverter, same as my car. Regardless, it should have been done better. Looking forward to seeing pictures of whatever modifications you end up doing!
A quick search on google revealed the following: E&G Classics® - Lexus RX350 Base 2017 Black Ice Fine Mesh Grille I think I can find something more reasonable, yet just as effective .
Have you looked into the F Sport grill? F-Sport grille fit on non-F Sport? - ClubLexus - Lexus Forum Discussion
I did, but it looks somewhat involved. After putting on the Suntek film, I would hate to have to adjust it. Also they make a kit that fits over it, but is more than the E&G grill. That grill kit might be the cheapest option. Will chat with the wife and see what the boss says.
I didn't look at them, but they did need resurfacing. Towards the end of the life of the brakes, I could feel the gentle surging during braking that comes with warped rotors, but it was very minor. The rotors were replaced because they were too thin to resurface. I was told that 0.87" is the minimum width you can safely run, and my rotors were at 0.90".
Took our RX450h in for the 6 month servicing (4750 miles). Asked what they charge for an oil change out of curiosity: $99.95. Ended up picking up a filter element and doing the oil change today. Good until 10 k servicing .
That’s a lot . I love on the invoice how they call their “inspection” World Class . I got the invoice afterwards and in it they had a check box for the hybrid battery test, which came back good and would hope so at 4700 miles. I asked the service advisor how they test the battery and got a blank stare. He said no one ever asked him and he wasn’t sure. He said I could talk to the tech, but I said I’ll ask at the 10 k service. Maybe he’ll have it figured out by then .
