Most Obscure Gen 4 Facts (way out there)

Actually, my 2017 is strange. With nobody in the back seats, all 3 position seat belt lights come on. If somebody is seated in a position, that light does not come on. That may be because they have the belt buckled, though.

Perhaps the sensors were added to the higher trims.

 

I hadn't noticed before, when did you change up to a 17... Or did I forget?

 

I forget.
I bought a 2017 last October and then joined PriusChat. I also have a 2008 Corolla & a 2000 Tundra pickup truck. I lurked on PriusChat for quite a while before joining.
My oldest son's first car was a 2005 Gen 2 Prius. He then moved to a 2015 Prius v 5 to take his dogs to dog shows.
We regularly have both Prii in our driveway.

 

I thought that was 16 and you had a bad e experience with your cloth seats. Plus, did you get a 17 in October 2016???

 

Never had a 2016. When lurking I considered the price of a 2016 Three tp get spare tire & safety features. I actually looked more at a new Corolla.
They have that ugly big black grille and we determined it might be too small inside for the medium sized dog we wanted then. Two weeks after getting the Prius my son & wife drove it from Virginia to Michigan and back to get our Miniature American Shepherd, Hannah.

It's the door sensor. When the car detects the rear door being opened, then the car started, it assumes someone is in the back seat and changes the settings for the airflow to reach the rear passenger.

That is not what the owners manual says. No mention of S-Flow changing to the rear seats.


EDIT: You may be correct but that has not been my experience. S-Flow stays on for me.

 

Across the pond, I know, but I've found I can toggle my S-flow using the button without affecting the auto climate. The flow diagram is displayed briefly showing where the air is going, so best tried while parked the first time.

 

I see, we only use the back doors to set bags in the rear as a rule. On our few hot days of the year I've set the flow to the rear for battery cooling, but don't know whether it needed it. Seldom gets above 23°C/73.4°F in our summer.

 

Did we ever get confirmation on this? Documentation on Toyota Canada site clearly states that with the Advanced Technology Package you get laminated side glass. There is no mention of this on the Toyota USA site. My old 2006 Lexus LS430 Ultra Luxury had it and you could easily see the two layers of glass with some other material in the middle. Maybe a Canadian member with ATP could take a photo so we could compare down here. Not a big deal but would be nice to find the answer. My 2017 Prius III just has the standard front side glass.

 

What's the purpose of this? UV protection? Holding the glass together even if shattered? Would it work against you, in a submerged car with the doors jammed?

I've looked at Toyota Canada site, see "side laminated glass" noted, without further explanation. Strangely succinct.

Not sure if it'll help - but if you look closely, there is an inscription - I think mine says "TEMPERLITE", but it's hard to see, and I think that means it's a tempered glass which will shatter.


I've got aftermarket tint - and I'm told that it's near impossible to smash open, particularly if underwater.
