Used the Lexus to work today, so can't run out and take a picture of my manual, but here's the Prius Plug-in manual I found online via the norwegian Toyota portal:

I think I commented on this earlier in this thread: The PIP sold in North America has a 40 litre tank whereas European models (and possibly the rest of the world) have 45 litres which is the same as the standard ZVW30 Prius.

Not sure why this difference exists, but I have noticed the BMW i3 REx also has a smaller tank in the US. Could be some regulatory thing as the US and Canada do not comply with UNECE regulations like most of the world (it's also why headlights are nearly always different on NA models).

EDIT: It may be something to do with reducing evaporation from the tank for CARB LEV requirements - which is why other models had a bladder in the tank and why the Chevy Volt has a pressurised tank.

There are a few more differences with the European PIP, e.g. lower EV mode speed limit (85 vs. 100 km/h), "EV City" mode instead of "Power", etc.

 

Ah, that may be the case! There's also a difference on my Lexus where my American friends with the same car, have a "lump" over the gas tank that partially steals some storage cubby space in the back. This lump isn't there on my otherwise identical car sold in Europe.

And I was also about to ask where this "power"-button was, but here it seems to be relocated to the bottom end of my pedal travel to the right of the HSI screen.
EV City is nice though. Keeps me from engaging the ICE by accident.

 

The US version of the PiP has a pressurized fuel tank as well.

That explains the tank size difference then. On mine it's just a normal cable-operated filler cap (lever on floor by driver's seat), probably the same as the standard Prius.

 

Very helpful. Just purchased a used 2014 PiP. So much to learn!

I realize this is ancient. I read the FAQ on this. However, I'm confused. Is there a spare that one can actually store "hidden" or "out of the way"- i.e. where most spares are stored? Or, do you simply mean that you buy a small spare and allow it to take up the regular trunk space? The latter wouldn't work for me. Thanks!

Just clarify the UK PIP EV speed limit is 100KM/h and has EV City mode, no TPMS and the heated rear quarter window demists but on the side you can't see from the drivers seat!

 

agreed, it's a poor set up. and prime is even worse.

 

The first generation UK PIP is limited to 85 km/h in EV mode (same as the rest of Europe), or about 92 km/h indicated (on the original 15" wheels anyway). I know because I have one imported from the UK (they didn't sell them here).

 

i can get up to 60MPH in ev mode with very gentle throttle pressure too much and it starts much earlier, mine had 15" wheels before I changed them to other 15" wheels

 

So I just purchased a 2013 pip! I'm so excited. (more on that later) I drove to the office this morning and averaged 148 mpg.

I've done some reading regarding dealing w/ the lack of spare tire, and I think I don't want to use Toyota's repair kit option. I've ordered the "slime" repair kit stuff recommended on here. Can someone also recommend a decent air compressor that will fit in the corner where the Toyota supplied one is located? My reasoning for switching out air compressor is so I will be able to use the air compressor without using the connector that comes with the Toyota supplied sealant.
