Discovered something disappointing on our new Prime Premium today. It appears the mpg indicator stops going up at 199.9 mpg. What a disaster It appears most of our day-day driving will fit within the 25 mile electric range. I'll have to make sure we do some longer distance driving so the gasoline engine gets some exercise too.
Another issue with the Prime is an inability to drive that number down. I could not get below 43 trying hard.
Sure thing. Carry 3 people, put two bikes on the hitch rack and drive 60-65 mph and surely you will end up below 40 mpg. I did it once or twice. It looks like Prime's prime efficiency is very susceptible to deteriorate significantly in any abnormal conditions. BTW I got same mpg on my former BMW 328xd SW in same conditions which normally never performed above 42mpg avg in normal driving conditions. Anyway Prime is amazing car with its own limitations. More we learn about it better we can use it.
Gonna' hav'ta look into / research that "Entune" crap... I'm such a SLOW learner, though! For ONE thing, I think I need to have a REALLY "smart" phone - which I do not - to access Entune... am I right?
i know it will read out low mpgs. i picked up the car from the dealer showing 35 mpg. But anyways if you charge the car the mpg reading is not real. it acts as if electricity is free and it isn't.
My Entune app doesn't show me anything about my driving (possibly because I don't have the Prime Advanced (I have the Premium).
No, but I don't buy my electricity by the gallon, so I blissfully carry on with the warm fuzzy feeling that 199.999999999+ MPG is the real deal.
Since I got my PiP nine months ago, I've spent $297 on gas driving 7,004 miles in HV mode and $106 on electricity driving 4,938 miles in EV mode. That's 4.2 cent per mile HV and 2.1 cents per mile in EV, with a total average of 3.38 cents per mile overall. At 49 mpg with the same gas prices, it would have been 4.54 cents per mile. With a 28 mpg gasser, it would have been 7.95 cents per mile. I'm happy! But a Prime would make me even happier. {edit to fix typos -- hope I got em all.}
