First, I go in (back in late February) because they tell me they can beat the deal I already had. They tell me they'd beat it by 700 or more, "anything to get my business" (the sales manager said this).

Then, they completely change their story and say they'll beat it by 100 if I order one and 500 if I take one in stock. By this time I had a bad experience with dealer #1 and forfeited the deal.

THEN, I go, disgruntled and they beat original by 600 (equaling 1300 less than MSRP) and am put on the waiting list. (this was early March).

Months and months go by (4 to be exact). Still no Prius.

Dad contacts dealers for a camry. DCH calls him and he tells him that they've been giving me problems and haven't delivered my car yet. Salesman tells him they have 32 dealers under their umbrella and can get me the car and to come in.

We go in, talk with the manager who I had dealt with before. Says he found a black pkg 5 in NY. Will see what allocation they get in July and will call me July 6th.

    No call.

I call yesterday. "Yeah, we have a black pkg 3 and there's a pkg 5 at another dealer but it's silver." What about the black pkg 5 in NY? "Oh yeah, I talked with inventory manager and he left a message but no one called him back. I'll talk to him and call you back. Take down my number and give me yours."

    No call.

I call today "Oh yeah, I talked to the inventory manager but he never got back to me. I'll talk to him on Monday and call you."

Yeah, I'll be waiting by the phone.

My revenge: They go by word of mouth, not advertisments. And the internet is a BIG place.

Is there ANY way I can find out which dealer in NY is the one with the black pkg 5???

Let me tell you, DCH is just about *THE* worst Toyota dealer on the east coast (and that's saying something). You may want to try heading down Route 130 to the Toyota dealer in Dayton, as they have a marginally better reputation.

Here's my DCH story. I had picked up my Prius from DCH after 4 months of waiting. I had owned the car 2 and a half days when it died (for the first, and not the last, time). I had it towed back to the dealer, and by the time we got there the service department was closing. As I'm standing in line, hoping to get a rental, my salesperson walks by.

So I figure, I'll talk to my salesguy. He should be able to help me out, right? So I explain the situation to him, and after I tell him he looks at me and says, "It's your car now, so it's your problem," and walks away.

    Oh what a feeling!

Yes, and what a terrible story! What was the outcome? What did you do?

Well, for my loaner I was stuck with a Scion xA!! I put in a call to Toyota corporate because, but that didn't really accomplish all that much to be honest with you.

I did get the car back after 3 days, and it went back again when it died a week later. That time I got a Camry loaner, which was a bit of a step up from the xA.

The bottom line is, I'll never buy another Toyota. The experience at the dealer and the reliability of the car have totally turned me off.

Yeah, I e-mailed the Toyota company also and it too accomplished nothing. They said they called DCH's customer service and that they would call me, they never did so I e-mailed them again and got a generic "we're sorry you had a bad experience....".

I remember when I was first looking for the Prius, on Edmunds, DCH was rated a premier dealership. Now it's not. Hmm...there service must have REALLY gone down.

Google "Toyota NY" and start making telephone calls. Ask for a salesperson. When the salesperson gets on the telephone tell them you are looking for a black Prius package 5, in stock.

You know, I just have to wonder whether that particular black package 5 was the one I picked up July 3 from East Coast Toyota in Wood Ridge.

Depending on how far you're willing to go, you might try Route 22 Toyota in Hillside or ToyotaLand in Springfield. When I started looking, they both quoted me wait times of 4-6 weeks. Route 22 seems to get decent allotments and they actually had an '06 available to test drive back in April/May.

If you want, I have a list of all the Toyota dealers (w/phone numbers) in NJ on a spreadsheet. I'd be happy to PM the list to you.

Yes, please do! that'd be great, thanks! :D

I don't think it's the same one. You got yours before I went to the dealer and saw it at a NY dealer.

BTW, I HATE Rt. 22 Toyota of Hillside!

I was wrong ... it's ToyotaLand in Springfield that had on for a test drive. I sent you a PM with the full list of NJ Toyota dealers.

    Good luck!

I bought mine at Westbury (NY) Toyota. I paid MSRP, but they threw in a Sirius radio and 9 months free. Except for some mild pressure tactics to purchase add-ons ( side molding , extended warranty, etc) they have been totally straight. I even got a check back for an accidental overpayment of DMV fees. The salesman I worked with was Cornel - an ex-banker. I got delivery in 4 days.

You know, you really should look into calling the oddice of the Attroney General and telling them your story. The NJ "lemon law" is supposed to protect consumers from stuff like this and dealers can (and have) get into a lot of trouble for selling lemons (which sounds like what they did).

now I REALLY, REALLY hate them!

I went to another dealer yesterday; they had a black pkg 5 in stock. By the time I got there, it was sold.

BUT, the salesman LOCATED an UNCLAIMED black pkg 5 coming into the port within a month and a half to a few weeks. EVERY dealer has this information. DCH could have found and nabbed this car for me, but didn't.

In fact, when my mom and I went to DCH on Monday to speak with Customer service, we ended up talking to (another) manager and he apologized for the other manager not calling us. he said he would talk to the inventory guy and do a locate and PROMISED to call us back the next day. He never called. I'm guessing he located the car but didn't want to get it for me because I have the deal at so much less than MSRP.

    Horrible, horrible people!

I'm not exactly sure where you are located, but you might want to try calling these NJ dealers:
    Cherry Hill Toyota
    Lawrenceville Toytoa
    Runnemede Toyota

I dealt with all 3 last year when I bought my 2005. All of them were very upfront about wait time, pricing, packages, etc. I ended up purchasing from Cherry Hill Toyota and had a good overall experience.

If you need more specifcs, feel free to PM.

    Good luck!

    Thank you!

Actually, I put down a deposit and signed a deal at Toyota Universe in Little Falls. He said the car should be able to get a rush delivery on the car and have it in in a few weeks.

I went to Toyota Universe yesterday.. I saw a booking made on 5/8/06 and he still said that someone was waiting for a light blue car.. i guess that was yours.. he also mentioned that the person had put in a deposit for xxxx amount.. i was not too happy dealing with him.. there was no comfort level that was shown.
