First, let me say that I make it a practice to acquire repair manuals for every car I've ever owned, on the theory that you can't have too much information about your vehicle. I've read on this board about those brave and hardy souls who download the manuals from Toyota's website, but after reading about one guy who spent several evenings downloading and another several evenings collating the downloads before he could begin to make use of them, I decided that just wasn't the way to go. Besides, riffing through a mess of download printouts balancing on a fender while trying to do a minor repair is not my idea of fun So, when I bought my 2006 Prius I insisted that the salesman include a set of the repair manuals in my order. When I took delivery I inquired about the manuals. The salesman informed me that they had to be ordered from California and would be delivered to me in "two to three weeks". Well, two to three weeks turned out to be more like rwo to three months. Finally the saleman dropped off a box at my house. It contained Volumes 2, 3 and 4 of the manuals, but no Volume one. Finally last night the missing Volume one was finally delivered to me. Eureka, I'm now not only the proud owner of a 2006 Prius, but also the proud owner of a set of Repair Manuals.
The repair manual, as it exists on the TIS website, is 250 individual PDF files. I downloaded them all and combined them into a single PDF in less than 2 hours.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(brandon @ Jul 9 2006, 11:45 AM) </div> I hate to break it to you but there are currently 2057 PDFs to be downloaded in the 2006 manuals section. That includes all of the repair manuals, reference guides, accessories, collision repair, technical training, ect... pretty much everything thats listed on the left hand side. The repair manual alone is 1607 PDFs. The online search feature is only able to list a max of 250. You might want to go through each section to get all the PDFs. I made that mistake too when I first visited the site. After I started to sort through everything I found there was a lot missing. I went back and got everything section by section. It took some time but it was well worth it. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(pre-cbs @ Jul 9 2006, 11:48 AM) </div> http://techinfo.toyota.com
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(theforce @ Jul 9 2006, 10:58 AM) </div> *sigh* Maybe a rainy-day activity... It ended logically at the end of the 250th PDF, so I didn't think to look any further.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(brandon @ Jul 9 2006, 01:02 PM) </div> Hey look on the bright side. It only costs $10 and a few hours of your time. WAY cheaper than buying the paper manuals. Plus with the digital manuals you can do quick full text searchs. Thats something you cant do with the paper version.
Absolutely, the ability to do a search on the text is a must-have feature of the PDF version. Kind of wish they didn't break the documents into multiple PDFs, though...
iWhat do you mean: cheaper than the paper manuals? The bound version didin't cost me one cent. I made the dealer include it in the cost of the car. Larry Racies
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(LarryRacies @ Jul 9 2006, 01:44 PM) </div> Really? Thats cool! I think the repair manuals normally cost a few hundred dollars.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(LarryRacies @ Jul 9 2006, 10:44 AM) </div> Well, that's good for you, but for the rest of us not-so-clever bargainers, what is the answer? First off, am I a mechanic? Well, no...... That probably makes the majority of the pages interesting but moot. I think about the shelves of computer programming books I've bought over the years and consider I've hardly opened most of them. Then I throw them away when the newer version comes out. If the manuals are available on-line, that seems like the best of all worlds. When a problem comes up that I have a prayer of fixing, I can search for the subject and print the page (latest updated info, unlike the book.) I can carry this page out to the car and don't care if I get grease on it. It lays flat on any surface. Even then, I don't imagine I'd do this much. Almost everything I want to do with the car is either a mod covered here somewhere with colored pictures to help, or something else covered by warranty that Toyota can fix for free (and guarantee.) I've had owner's manuals and Chilton books a number of times and they normally yellow in the smoggy, acidic air of Southern California. (This is to frighten away any further immigrants from the hinterlands.) I feel like such a loser: you got the books. I had them toss in a tube of touch-up paint!
Are you sure about that number? I seemed to only be able to find 1097 pdf's for the service manual. Some of the manuals appear to be in a few of the sections, like the ones on brakes. Although I have not put it all together yet and could be missing some.
