Hey everyone, Just got a 2014 PiP and need a charger. I got it off an owner who's dog chewed through it (thankfully the charger was not plugged in). The guy didn't bother charging the car very often so he didn't replace the charger. I need a new home charger j1772. I have been looking on eBay. I have been using Prius chat to do research and the forums are great. You people are so great. I bought it knowing it would be a reliable car. Just looking to see if anyone has a spare charger. I want to drive it in EV when I on the last stretch of my commute since it is all city driving. Any help is appreciated! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
congrats! check amazon as well. any old charger will work. did he give you the chewed charger? it can probably be fixed.
Congratulations. What a great car. I assume you mean the EVSE charging cable, not the actual charger. That's built into the car. I kind of doubt if anyone has one for sale, but it's worth a try. It looks like the best prices are the Chinese ones on EBay or Alibaba. Several people here have bought them. But AMazon has them too. Also, if you didn't know it already, the Leaf charging cable works on the PiP & Prime, too. Sometimes you can find a used one for a decent price.
He did. The cable is in really rough condition though. The cable is chewed in a few spots. The part that connects to the car looks like it was banged up a few times. I will head over to Amazon and check. Thank you! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
you can contact evseupgrade.com and ask what it would cost to repair. they may be able to repair and upgrade to L1/L2 at the same time.
I would prefer avoid using the FIXED cable as it carries high voltage electricity. I dont think its a huge diff between the working new/used one to fixing the bad cable. As many other makers cables work (leaf etc), try either a new cable OR a used (if you want to be budget). Repair should be least and last option.
On the other hand, can you post your deal details? (mileage, price paid, condition etc., for records)
It depends on the quality of the repair. As an industrial electrician, I fixed a whole lot of low voltage cables. And the Prius EVSE is not high voltage, it's low voltage. LV is up to 600 volts. High voltage is over 69,000 volts. But that's not to say low voltage doesn't deserve respect. I've read that more people are killed by 115-120 volt circuits than any other voltage.
As I am not specialized in your area of expertise, I stand corrected about the high voltage or any other factor influence the quality of the repair. I interpreted my understanding from the fact that the low gauge extension cable to the stock cable would get hot after few min of charging. In any event, good to know that there are safe options to repair the PIP charging cable.
I'm sure that's the reason. It's common and people get careless. And they do stupid stuff with it. Incredibly, they actually do need to warn people not to use their hair dryer in the shower.
2014 with 26,xxx miles on the clock. Advanced technology package. Super well kept. The old owner did not plug in very often which worried me a little, but so far the car has been great. HUD is a new thing to me and it is so cool. All the technology that it has is just remarkable. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I bought one through eBay. I'm waiting on it to arrive. I hope it gets better before the end of the week. It should be here soon as I am in California and it is here, too. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
