I am scratch my head trying to find the difference between the hybrid battery modules of the Gen 3 to the Gen 4 Prius. (nimh) The capacity is the same The Voltage is the same. But the kwh peak output is different. Is the gen3 just asking more from the batteries? Or is there some sneaky business going on with internal resistance and improvements like that being made? The mpg of even the new 2015 is still estimates around 50mph which is what ive always got in my 2007 (maybe 46-48 in my hilly CT area) SO IS IT THE SAME? I am very confused that the technology has not been improved upon with the batteries Any, please help.
Maybe this will help? (Note there's a typo on the Li-ion battery weight. It's obviously not 324kg (712lbs) lol And this is just for the hybrid system. Improvements have been made to the engine side too.
FYI KWh is a measure of energy (capacity). KW is a measure of power. Think of KWH as how big the storage container, of waterKW being how fast the water can come out. The bigger the hose, the more water at once but over less time than for a smaller hose connected to the same container. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Maybe this isn't the absolute best place to ask, but is it possible to use the new Gen IV battery cells as replacements for a Gen II battery pack? I believe being smaller shouldn't pose a problem, but I can't be sure. I am pretty certain you can use Gen III to replace the Gen II cells. And great to see DanMan32, he must remember the Great Prius Gathering of 2005 or 2006 over there in Tampa?
I do not know where you are located but the Trim Two NiMH cells work in a Gen 2. Todd from Tampa Hybrids did one. Trim Two Eco and higher have Lithium Ion batteries that would not be compatible. Todd's thread: Gen 4 cells in a Gen 2 | PriusChat
