Catalytic Converter in 2009 Prius

I'm reviving this old post... Thank you rmsmith1977 for posting that link! I get the annoying P0420 code... I've replaced both the upstream and downstream O2 sensors and the code keeps coming back. I do have over 200,000 miles on my Prius, so it is reasonable that it needs to be replaced. Parts on order from Amazon for $232.18, which is much better than the OEM $1,697.82! With the Prime membership Parts should be delivered by Tuesday 10/27/2015 - which I find to be incredible!

 

Should have updated this a year ago. The catalytic converter that was installed in 2011 only lasted 3 years. The unit COMPLETELY rusted out from stem to stern. Since I had the original unit, I put it back on the car and welded the muffler directly to the pipe since the connector had rotted away. So far, so good. The aftermarkets are guaranteed for 5 years but only last 3. Never going down that road again...

 

That's too bad that it only lasted 3 years... but I guess for about $300 that isn't too bad, and it could be worse. I mean the alternative is $1698 you could replace the CAT assembly almost 4 times for the price of OEM. and in my situation, the CAT I have now is not working.

Sorry to bump an old thread if you are even still around. How is the FoST treating you? I have a 13 FoST I bought new. I get 24ish mpg around town and 28.5 on the interstate. My biggest issue was a new engine at 31,000 miles.

 

I ended up buying a rear O2 sensor from a Toyota dealership so I knew for sure it was stock OEM. As soon as I put it in, no more codes. So it was the non-OEM sensor from a-zon (you know the website) that claimed to be an "OEM replacement."
