Prius C over 35k miles. The dashboard now displays this message when driving? Is this an emergency? And what does this entail? I really can't find much about this exact message when searching in google.

I'm on a budget so how far can I drive it before I take it to the dealer to get this taken care of? And any idea how much its going to run?

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

You say you are on a budget, can you DIY? Have you checked the hybrid cooling fan to see if there is buildup in it? Do you hear the fan running? What is the performance of the car like (does it behave differently than if the message is not displayed)?

Where in the great state of California are you located? If you tell us a general area, we can help point you toward non dealer options.

    Keep us posted (y).

That sounds more like a warning, popped-up on the dash. The only (US model) maintenance warning is a single light, saying maintenance warning, nothing specific about "hybrid cooling"?

Maybe still covered under warranty? I would think dealership and Techstream is required.

Initial diagnostic visit typically runs $75~80 up here.

does the c have the scheduler you can input your own like gen 2? maybe a prior owner?
either way, there's no scheduled maintenance at 35k in the manual for cooling system.

It sounds like the Maintenance Required Warning. It pops up every 5000 miles from the last time it was reset. Search for how to clear it and rotate your tires.

I missed the coolant part... I don't read headers... I only read the body. It's a flaw of mine. :(

Possibly. I am curious about this one now though... I haven't seen it in my 4 years of lurking/posting.

No no, just busy. I'm still invested in this. And I'm glad to see such a response to my post. This is a real flourishing community huh?

The car is in LA. The message on the dash is exactly as it reads in the title. Since it says "scheduled" I thought it might just be an automatic warning, like in previous cars, the 'maintenance' light going on every 5k miles to remind you to get an oil change.

But since no one else has ever seen this message, (it doesn't show up much in google either), that has me worried, thinking that its a real issue that the system is detecting. Like maybe battery temp is too high. But why would they say "scheduled" in the message?

    So I'm uncertain.

I don't think I'd be able to do it myself either.

Its a 2012 Prius C. its up to 37k miles now. I've been ignoring the error because someone mentioned it would be as much as $200 to get the dealer to look at it, and that would be just if nothing needs to be fixed or replaced. (its a leased vehicle, but the lease doesn't help out on anything but oil changes and air filters).

They quoted $200? That seems high.

i would just ignore it, until you can afford to have someone read the codes. i doubt there is anything wrong with anything, except the message.
try disconnecting the 12v neg cable for a few minutes, and see if it comes back.

how many years/miles have you owned her?

Thank you @ztanos for making that suggestion. Otherwise I wouldn't have noticed that I had the error message wrong.

It actually reads "Maintenance Required for hybrid battery cooling parts at your dealer".

That sounds much more omninous than what I had thought it said.

Is this something that an ODBII reader would give me "codes" on? I've used one of those before.

BTW, I'm going to try this (now that I can search for the correct error message).

You should be receiving error messages. Absolutely hook it up to a code reader.

sounds like the cooling fan or grille is clogged. check the grille first to make sure it's uncovered and clean. then move on to the fan.

nice youtube! i like the way they've set up the panel, grille, screen and fan. much easier than in the past. i am surprised that lint is clogging it, they must have a much finer screen the in the past.

Yep, that's quite a bit more and different than what you "thought" it was saying.
First of all I don't see the word scheduled.
And most ominously I see the word Hybrid Battery.

    Personally? I wouldn't ignore it.
Budget or otherwise I'd get it in ASAP. Not worth putting your Hybrid Battery at risk.

EDIT: Just saw the youtube video above. I hope that is the problem, because that's easily fixed. I'd probably call around and around until I found a Toyota dealership that was honest enough to admit what that message REALLY means.
You can't be the only person that has gotten it. Someone should be able to confirm if cleaning the intake fan vent and filter is really all it means.
If you are on a budget, I hope that is all it turns out to be.

I'm kind of surprised no other Prius c owner has chimed in with a similar experience. If it's a message designed to pop up if the fan vent becomes dirty or clogged, you'd think someone else would at least be familiar.
