I never use "Hybrid Synergy Display" either - it doesn't give as good an idea of what's going on, and in some situations is inaccurate (the EV light is very approximately an indication of what's going on). That said, I rarely look over there anyway, but to the HUD.

This is much better than the Hybrid Display:

If I've got passengers in the car, I have it displayed. They're fascinated if they haven't been in a PRIUS before.

The Energy Monitor - a staple of the Prius before all the other stuff came along (like Hybrid System Indicator, the "engine off" light that became the EV light).

Yeah I use thr Energy Monitor to wow passengers who have never been in a hybrid.

I find if I display and watch the Energy Monitor while driving, I'm in serious danger of going off the road.

Sometimes I think I can feel the ICE running, or the Hybrid SI in the HUD is showing that it's using 3l/100 - downhill - a glance across to the Energy Monitor shows what's really happening.

Don't know why, but my grandson and son in law were silently unimpressed, which quite deflated me for a while.

I too have the Hybrid Synergy Display on for passengers who ride in my Prius. I never look at it but they are fascinated by it. I liken it to a box for idiots with lights that flash that do nothing other than simulating a high tech device typically a functioning computer but one that does nothing.

The display they are most fascinated with is the MPG which all passengers seem to notice. Usually it says somewhere between 55-59MPG most typically 57 or 58MPG's. I have had discussions with other Gen4 Prius owners. When I tell them my (MPG) mileage, the conversation quickly ends because they lack the driving skill to achieve what most PriusChat users achieve in mileage.

I found that shifting into "B" mode kicks the engine on. On the Gen 2 and Gen 3, if you drop below a certain speed (35km/h in Gen 2, 40km/h in Gen 3), you can shift into B and get slightly stronger regen without the engine kicking in. On the Gen 4, it kicks in (granted, I haven't tried a lower speed but I have tried at 40 and 35km/h)

I can't tell you how disappointed I was to learn that symbol didn't, in fact, mean my prius came equipped with a coffee maker.

Everybody talks about poking the bear, waking the bear but they forget about the tiger. A solitary hunter that lives in both snow climates and very warm climates.

No tigers or bears in my back yard, though I have glimpsed one or two cougars in the area.

We have squirrels and deer as pests here.
Coyotes bobcats and an occasional bear as predators.
I though the dealers were the predators we normally discuss here.

It has a few screens that good drivers are unlikely to ever see.

I mentioned the one you get when you are driving without keeping your hands on the wheel.

There are more, and I am bent on finding them all.

Today I learned that if you depress the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time while in drive, a special screen will appear telling you that is exactly what you are doing.

    Good to know, right?
