I think I would side with @Mark57 if I could get an October window. I don't want to miss out on the $4500 federal tax credit - Washington has never been reliable in the best of times - who knows now. I don't believe there will be any significant change between 2017 and 2018, just the lost value of buying late in the current model year making your car age faster on trade in day. But with my dealer saying it's nearly hopeless for a year end delivery, I'm down to chasing an East Coast deal, and putting 2000 miles on a new car, or waiting on the 2018 model and taking my chances with Congress. Talk about a crappy set of alternatives.

Yeah but I could see the fun side of driving your new puppy home 2k miles, and America is a beautiful place to explore, if you've got the time!!

In theory yes, the co law states that a dealer or bank in Colorado can take 5k off the purchase price and get the rebate directly from the state, however in practice none do. So crazy. It could really drum up their sales and get people to purchase who would otherwise not qualify for a more expensive vehicle.

What about paying for getting the car delivered? is that usually out of the equation, as the cost of delivery is almost always high and it's just better/cheaper/nicer to fly out and drive the car back, even if 2,000 miles? I once saw a reasonable quote on eBay Motors for $500 to deliver a car from Ohio to New York, but it would probably be a lot more across America...?

I don't get hung up on that at all. I see it as having a vehicle one model year old with zero miles. After 7 or 10 years, not having a year's worth of miles really helps. If you're trading every 2 years then it's one thing and every 7 or more something entirely different. I've bought them early and bought them late in the model year. What's important is what I need at that time.

Yeah, I wanted the vehicle and was prepared to get it June 30, but on the Prime, that was not to be. Could I have searched the universe, yes, but I didn't. I'm waiting until October. I get more recent maps, outstanding TSB's installed if any, and IF I'm lucky, a better windshield than the early buyers.:p

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. It's about $1200-1800 depending upon whether you use a covered or open air transport, not including insurance, and available delivery dates. That eats up a lot of the Toyota cash back, and then I have to deal with a private sale of the 2015 Highlander I would be replacing. The drive is far more economical (guessing $100 in gas) but carving over 5% of the warranty right off the top is disappointing. If Toyota wasn't so protective of its dealers, I could get a bargain price on a ToyotaCare extended warranty like I did with the Honda Odyssey (Honda lets you buy from any dealer, and there are several high volume internet sales dealerships that make it up in volume - $1000 vs $3000 form the local dealer who up-sells at 200-300% - talk about nitrogen in your tires).

I'm still talking to the folks in NYC about their Gray Advanced, but I think it will be too much work to make it work.

We might be moving to the Midwest, and I've started looking at Prime availability. I'm guessing based on the recent conversations in this thread that cars.com, autotrader.com, and dealer site inventories are not in any way accurate? I definitely don't see much of anything in Texas, but there appear to be a couple of Advanced trims at least (which is what I'm looking at) around Oklahoma City (they've been showing on the dealer sites as in inventory with VINs for a least the week I've been looking). Is that just not true or am I misreading things in some other way?

Does any one know of Prius Primes selling for less than 32,000 within a 900 mile radius of Wisconsin? I know the Northeast has awesome deals, but I would prefer to look closer to home if possible

I used cars.com and it seemed to be accurate. Nobody is saying there is nothing at all in OK... just limited availability & less discount / rebate. You can call the OK dealers to negotiate while you can get way better deal without much negotiation in NE.

sorry, i didn't mean elmira specifically, i just meant parts of the northeast are within your 900 mile specification, and you can get great discounts and $3,500. rebate.

Actually I found Dominick Bernard at Berlin Auto Group to be the easiest to deal with. It has been a no BS deal and I really think that he made me the best offer OTD on an Advanced model.
Now, I just have to wait for a finance offer. I was going to go through my credit union, but I am not happy with their offer. So I tried a couple of other banks. Sometimes lately I wonder why I belong to a credit union.

Not all dealers are in the 3500 cash back for Prius Prime. From what I have learned it is the Northeast states that offer the best.
Heck, in Wisconsin, it is full sticker price in addition to dealer fees. SMH at this one. Try Dominick Bernard at New Berlin Toyota in Portland Maine.
