The sales volume continues to decrease in the United States.
    All figures are in thousands.
    Calendar year sales.

    2012 35.8

    2013 42.0

    2014 40.6

    2015 38.5

    2016 20.5

    2017 13.6 (using actual 7 months figure of 7.9)

This decline may have something to do with the emergence of many similar vehicles. Chevy Sparks are becoming more prevalent around my neck of the woods. And maybe since Chevy is an American brand (to the best of my knowledge), people are leaning toward that car. Besides, I think Chevy parts, in most cases, are interchangeable. As long as the numbers match, it's good to go. Less specialized care and maintenance. Not sure how our little Prii C's can quite compare to that. Also, keep in mind...I know little to nothing about cars, parts, and the like. This is just my own opinion about the decline in the Prii C trend.

yep, it's been the talk of the town for awhile now. perhaps the price difference isn't enough to coax people away from the lift back and other like sized hybrids, and mpg is not remarkable for lost space.
but when you look at all prius sales, it's not a pretty picture.

    Chevy Spark LS.................... $13000.
    Prius C One.............................$20150.
    The difference is......................$ 7150.

That is a large amount to many buyers.

Sales are typically higher in the fall so that may be a lowball estimate.

I bought a leftover 2016 Two in June at a substantial discount. Asked the dealer what they had 2 leftovers. His response? "When gas is knocking on the door of $2/ gallon, people aren't breaking down our door to buy hybrids."

    Makes sense to me.

Anyone ever see advertising for Prius? I'm in the midwest, and we're a super minority here, so we see no advertising whatsoever. In fact, I can't remember ever seeing a Prius commercial other than something put on by a local dealership. Honda & Chevy however, smoke the 10 minute commercial breaks here.

No, probably an 80/20 split at best. Even Hyundai advertises them here. But can't remember ever seeing a Prius commercial from Toyota here in Indiana.

maybe toyota is smarter than the other companies, know a lost cause when they see one? we don't get much hybrid advertising around here but every once in awhile, and it's a reasonably good sales area.
tons of truck ads though!(y) if i see the silverado ad with the camouflage and high strength steel bed one more time, i'm gonna puke.

I don't see TV ads for the Prius in my area, but I don't know if Toyota really needs them. My co-workers, etc, all know what they are. If anybody talks about getting a hybrid, it's automatically assumed that it's going to be a Prius. I'm not sure if anybody around here sees serious competition for the Prius, comparing hybrids to hybrids.

The Prius C had those life commercials back in 2012/2013, but I haven't seen anything in a while.

The C would likely get a sales boost if the drivetrain would improve like it did with Gen IV liftbacks

    Cheap gas.
    Expensive buy-in.
    Performance.
Looks better than a G4 hatch, but its looks are still an issue for a $20,000 car.
Eco Nerds are willing to pay an extra few thousand to get into a Prime

The Priussy has a lot going against it.
I was VERY exited when this car first came out, because I thought that Toyota was going to put the Prius HSD drivetrain into a 3/4 scale car.....and something that small BEGS to have the 30 extra BHP......but alias they didn't.

Yeah.....the Priussy gets great gas economy, but even in California the money that you save isn't going to add up to the price delta, and let's face it....$20,000 can put you into a 35MPG car that is orders of magnitude more comfortable and fun to drive.
You have to remember...they're starting to actually say some decent things about the G4' NOT because it's more efficient than the G3, and DANG sure not because it looks good, but because it's more fun to drive on real streets out in the real world......even with the rubber-band CVT transmission.
If you look at the performance numbers of the Spark versus the Priussy, they should drive about the same.....but according to ALL of the pundits they most certainly do not.
The Spark is the Chihuahua of the automotive world.
    Little car.....BIG personality.
    AND......
The Spark isn't even the C-type's biggest competitor!
There's.....the Fit, Yaris, Festiva, Sonic, Accent, Rio, Mazda2..........and on and on.

I'm hoping that they keep the C-type around for a bit and maybe transmorgify it into a compliance (BEV,PHEV) vehicle for places like Caly - but the economics say that the higher price point will drive even more buyers into alternatives.

    It's too bad, really....
The Priussy had a ton of potential.

Millennials want SUV's not wagons, liftbacks, and minivans - so uncool.
Just helped my next closest millennial drive home a VW Atlas- which is like a 7-seat minivan configured like an SUV.

Hope they keep the v, as I am a wagon-loving baby boomer, which is rare thing too however.

Gotta admit....the v is now the best looking Prius in the lineup.

I hope that this doesn't doom it to getting deleted.....

Well... that's your opinion... I for one still think the C is the best looking. Though the V has the most utilitarian facility.
