I have a 2005 Prius with 110,000 miles. Replaced 12 volt at 75,000 miles. Red triangle with exclamation point and check engine light came on last week. Decided to remove hybrid battery pack and test individual cells. Lowest battery blade voltage was 6.43. All others are 7.55 volts up to 7.66 volts. Should the battery blades be tested under a load? How would you test under a load? Would one bad cell at 6.43 volts cause the red triangle and check engine light? I wish to learn and do my own repairs.

This will help you with load testing modules: ProlongĀ® Battery Module Load Tester User Guide - Hybrid Automotive You also might consider our reconditioning systems to easily & efficiently cycle the pack after replacing the failed modules, and to maintain the battery so you don't have to replace other modules later: What causes hybrid batteries to degrade and fail? - Hybrid Automotive
Hello and welcome to PC. Yes that voltage in one module would cause a fault light/code. Go to the Gen 2 forum and search the sub-forums for everything you need to know about battery repair. Bottom line: it's a cheap but temporary fix. GOOD LUCK!
blade=module=blade six CELLS per module Two MODULES per block Fourteen BLOCKS or twenty eight MODULES per Gen2/Gen3 Prius battery pack
Yes but where did that term COME FROM ? I've never heard it used relating to batteries before. And I ain't no spring chicken.
Maybe. But if it DID, that bears no resemblance to how things work now. I find it interesting how different people use different terms to describe things; some of which are old, outdated and archaic and just tends to confuse things.
