Just got my Prime Tuesday. On the commute in this morning (33 miles), I went the entire way on battery with 7 miles to spare. Overall topography driving to my job is downhill, so I'm sure it will be considerably less going home this afternoon. But, still super happy with the range.

After 5 full charge cycles, the estimated miles remaining finally display slightly more than 30. I've been getting around 35 since the beginning (no high speed driving). Looking good.

Mine said 33.4 the other day... then I went on a 55 mph drive with the A/C cranked and 2 bikes on back. When we got to the park, there was only 0.6 miles of EV left. I plugged in to recharge while out on the trail. Upon our return, we repeated the same high-demand drive home.

The next day, the EV estimate for a full charge plummeted to 26.9 miles. Eek!

Yes, but whatever the darn calculator says for an estimate, it is only that. You'll really get the range of whatever the battery has. So if you drive with no or low ECO A/C, fan low, battery temperature nominal, and speeds under 50mph, you should get more than the 26.9, right?

My daily commute is about 15 miles each way in HOV at ~75-80. I only get about 28miles max. With ac on will be only at 25miles. Is this normal?

If it makes you feel better, I have driven my new PRIME 3 times this week to work 17.9 miles each way on rural road 40-50mph with some hills and EcoAC on, and I finally got 27.6 miles on my MID this morning after full charge. It is getting better, but not yet 30 miles range.

I have got 54,4 Km of EV range (34 miles) after a month and a half. It's incredible because if you know Montréal ( many stop, unsyncro circulation stop light etc) , it's hard to get a fluid circulation like S-E Florida for exemple.

Yup, Mr. Yoyoman. You pay for that 75-80mph! I know it can be painful to try to Zen it, but try roads, if you can, that encourage 35-40mph, just for a week; you'll be pleasantly rewarded with much better range! Also, you'll probably arrive at your destination somewhat less stressed out!!

I haven't driven my PRIME in congested city roads yet, but I would think stop and go may not be a bad thing for EV. More regenerative brake means more charging. I am sure if I switch to HV on my uphills and use EV only on downhills on my daily commute, I think I can get much better EV ranges. But that's not what I want. I want to be able to drive to and from my work total 35.8miles all by EV on a full single charge.

IMG_0125.JPG I have gotten the Guess- O-Meter up to 40.1 in the past, but I have done some around town driving in power mode recently which brought it down to 39.3.

IMG_0078.JPG Here is a bad photo of my record run of 125 nonstop miles at 141mpg. 7000 foot elevation drop, hypermiling behind semi's doing 60, with DRCC distance at one, in B mode. The last 85 miles of the trip were entirely downhill in EV, on 24 miles of EV range.

I can easily make the same trip and use 2 gallons(downhill) by just driving 72 and not hypermiling. The best run I have had in the other(uphill) direction used 2 gallons. YMMV, just based on how you drive, but really good numbers can be achieved with enough patience applied to your driving style. Think of it as having fun with electricity.

NET 7000 feet elevation change over 125 miles ?
That is 65 Wh per mile of potential energy

I am retired so just run errands on my timetable. Nevertheless, the Prime over time has placed green dots at intersections where I have driven in the past. When approaching a green dot intersection, lifting my foot from the accelerator causes more regeneration than normal and reduces speed quicker than normal.

    Hi guys,

May I join this thread, or is a Y chromosome required? :p

I took delivery of my Prime Premier last week in New Jersey. It had 101 miles on it, which were, of course, at terrible overall MPG and unknown EV/HV mix. I drove 1,050 miles across the Appalachians home to Memphis, TN. So my first mileage report is pure HV only. Full disclosure, I am an experienced hypermiler. I use all the usual techniques, but I DO NOT draft trucks!

The trip displayed was hampered by mountains, a traffic-stopping accident, rush hour traffic in Nashville, a blinding thunderstorm which forced me to stop, and to use air conditioning to defog three times, and road construction near Memphis. This "trip" is from my first fill-up to highway exit in Memphis. I averaged about 54 miles per hour.

After arriving home, my first charge showed a range of 22.5 miles, which I see is typical when you first start. I knew that would be inaccurate, and proceeded to drive 32.5 miles, about 5 miles on the highway, with one passenger. We got home with a few miles to spare. I didn't know the guages well enough to get the remaining range. I will probably report more EV results later, but I think it would be more useful to report miles per KWh rather than miles. On my first outing I got 6.7 miles/kWh. That compares pleasantly well with the 6.6 miles/ kWh I have over the last year or so on my 2011 Nissan Leaf.

Y chromosomes are not required, but cats are!! Cute black and white!! Fully integrated I see!! Welcome, and congrats on your Prime acquisition. Perhaps we should call you, Lady Magellan, based on your exploits!

Outstanding HV trip! I knew 70 mpg was possible but 80 mpg took some real dedication. And 6.6 miles per kWh is brilliant as well.

Like you, I own a LEAF and a Prime .... although full disclosure, the Prime is a bridge to a Model 3.

    Welcome!
