just signed up. My daughter bought an 09 and my wife had to have a Prius. I found and bought a mint condition 07 with 150k. I'm averaging 45.5 mpg overall and love this car. I've checked all that I can check so far. Oil clean, all fluids normal, no cel codes. Is there anything I should check? I read that I should clean the battery fan. Any advice?
Welcome to the site. Register the VINs at http://www.toyota.com/owners so you can review dealer service history and recall status. Enjoy.
congrats and welcome! worth checking the fan and intake grille, since you don't know the history. maybe change the tranny fluid, check/clean/replace air and cabin filters, and 12v health/age. did you get two fobs? remove the metal keys and unlock the mechanical door lock before you have to. also, find the jump point under the hood, and emergency hatch release. check the spare tyre pressure. all the best!
Thanks for the info. I was thinking about the tranny fluid. You just confirmed it. Only came with one smartfob. Is that a bad thing?
Now I'm a little worried. I've been reading about hv battery failures on this site. Some have said that remanufactured batteries may last one year if lucky. Somebody help me learn the best way to address a battery failure if it happens.
Welcome! Especially since both you and your daughter have older Prii it might be a good idea to invest in a grid charger & discharger from Hybrid Automotive. Many people here have used them to recondition their batteries and extend their battery life. @jeff652 is an active member here .

Welcome and excellent news! Brake fluid - should be CLEAN, nearly clear, if not have a QUALIFIED shop perform a brake fluid flush. Coolant - if no record of coolant exchanges (ICE and HSD), plan on that for both. Transaxle fluid - Toyota has no schedule, but..... there is no such thing as lifetime lubrication. HVAC filter!!!!! - At LEAST every year. Air filter - no more than yearly or 60k, a dirty filter is actually better for your engine than a clean one! Park it in the shade when possible! Keep the interior temps down, high temps are the hardest thing on the HV battery other than sitting for extended periods.
Prius doesn't have a tranny. It is a "Synergy Drive" patented system. Just change the fluid every 70k. Pretty much runs for a long time.
