Does Toyota Genuine ATF or Coolant expire? I am thinking of stocking up on the fluid for my 2012 Prius when I am in the United States. However, I don't plan to use it until 1.5 years later. Does the fluid expire? Or is it a bad idea to shelf the jugs for over a year?
I've got a ~3 year old bottle of the coolant, never even occurred to me it could get old. It's good for 10 years in the car.
Coolant starts to "degrade" the moment it's made, according to my friend who used to make it at Dow. I suspect it will last longer in the bottle than in the car, and it's good for a long time in the car, as Mendel says. So a year or two shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah, and expiration date. Transmission fluid might be a little more prone to getting old, but who knows. Why not just buy stuff as you need it, in particular with the transaxle fluid? At most you'll have a 1/2 quart kicking around for a few years.
