Do you doubt the ability of the EPA to measure the energy from the meter to fill the Prius battery from empty and read the odometer ?
The rest is definitions and arithmetic.

Still on the first tank of gas near end of the second month. The EV charge this morning was 38.1. estimate with 3 bligits left we should hit 1,500 mile at the end of the tank. still driving EV to work and ECO on the way back charging at both ends. Some nights it only takes about an hour to top off the charge. Will update again when the tank runs out.

The more I watch the system, the more I think it sandbags the estimate by about 10%.

Yesterday, I got in and it told me I have a 28.4 mile range with the A/C on. I drove 28 miles and had 3.4 miles left when I got home. The efficiency was exactly the same (5.3 miles/kWh) as both the long term average and the average of the last eight trips. This to me means the system is underestimating the range by about 10% (3 miles out of about 30 miles). This is what the fuel gauge does too - when you "run out of range" on the gasoline range estimate (when it hits zero), you really have about 1.3 gallons left in the tank - about 10%.

OK, I am on my third day of Prime ownership. My Prime had three times charging. Today was the first commute to my work. I am not getting anywhere close to what people are reporting here on EV range. No, I have not read Owner's manual yet. I don't even know how and where to look for all the information, but the EV range on the MID this morning as I was leaving home with full charge over night, said "22.8 miles". I drove all the way to work (17.9 miles) on EV only, and at the parking lot the remaining EV range says "8.4 miles". That means I can drive at least 26.3 miles EV (17.9 actual EV miles + 8.4 miles remaining EV miles prediction). That's better than initial 22.8 miles the car predicted, but still far short of marks people are reporting here.

What do I need to do to drive to and from work all on EV alone (total 36 miles)?

Mine started at 22. It adds itself 1-mi every couple days until it hits 36. At least for me, it has stopped at 35-36 range.

Use your driving coach on your upper info screen. Stay in the blue area as much as possible. After driving efficiently enough, the EV range will adjust. Needing a full 36 EV range round trip, you need the climate control off. With the ECO climate control on, I have lost about 3 EV miles off of the range. I have been consistantly getting 35 EV range and as high as 37 EV range.

Thanks. I will give a try. First I have to read up on the "driving coach" on the manual. I also have to read up on the climate control.

Wow, great. Thank you very much. Your just saved me 30 min to 1 hour of my time trying to look for and read relevant information on owner's manual. ;)

The car is learning about your driving style and EV range will reflect that, fwiw, i started out at ~22 and am currently at ~ 42-43.
Read through some of the posts (theres great advice here) but also try a few things out on your own, no-one knows your commute better than you.
I recommend reading the manual, not so much for how to drive efficiently but to learn about the features of the car. I've had mine open on my laptop since I got my Prime, the pdf of course that is :)

@salamander check out my almost daily post's from the beginning of this thread. I went on a cross country trip charging my battery every morning then getting on the highway going at least 70-75 MPH. Of course going that fast you're only going to get about 15-19 miles EV and your estimated EV range will drop also. When I got back at the end of June I went back to driving only in EV and only going about 45 MPH tops, you will see my EV range estimate gradually go back up.:D

AI at work, must be. Only problem is that I share this car with my wife and even sometimes with my son. Depending on what my wife schedule, if she plans to drive longer than my daily commute on particular day, she gets the claim on the most efficient vehicle in my household. Or, is the car smart enough to know who is driving today? (n)

I would also recommend see how many routes you can take to the same destination to work and take the one with the capability of driving 45 or slower and the least amount of stops. Try different routes to see which works best for you if you have that as an option.

that's going to be a challenge
I think the Advanced has some route learning feature, I have the Plus so can't comment on that.
Also, if at work you have the option to charge, esp Chargepoint, take advantage of that $100, I was able to use all but like $6

One thing about living in rural US is that there aren't much alternate rout to take for the final destination. Keeping speed below 45 is usually not problem as long as there is no Monster Truck tailgating me on one lane rural state hwy. :)

Thanks for sharing that short video about the "driving coach". It's kind of a shame, though... I'm retired, and so I won't have ANY daily commutes (if-or-when I ever get my Premium... ....), just variable "errand runs" two or three times a week on different days and even at different times of day. Those are not... at... ALL consistent enough for the car to "memorize"! STILL... the "driving coach" should be at least SOMEWHAT helpful as it monitors acceleration and braking and such WHENEVER driving... yes?

Maybe get a part time job to help pay for the huge gas bills you're going to have to pay for with the Prime? And electricity bills... :D:cool:

Naw... I think not... but IF a part time job comes into play, it's MUCH more likely to be the result of needing help paying for the new roof / shingles (probably sometime in August) and roof-mounted PV-solar-electric installation (probably sometime in October)....
