If the battery is bad, you'll get a red triangle warning. You don't have to mess with it if the warning doesn't come up. Main thing to remember is not to let the car sit too long without driving it. A 2012 battery will work, you'll just have to transfer the modules to the 2007 case
Prius c has 20 modules, vs a regular prius with 28 modules. But they are the same, just different count. I would not recommend buying 20 modules for your car
I'm sure all mine are good but a few..will check..no warning lights but trying for 52mpgs Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The problem with buying 20 modules is some will self discharge to the point they'll be unusable when you need them. Your battery is still in good condition and you'll have to wait for a failure before you can use the modules. In order for the 20 modules to stay in good condition, you would need to charge them up fully before storing them. Then when you are about to use them (1+ years away), you would need to charge them again before using them. I admit $50 is a great deal....I would buy them LOL
Just callded a mechanic prius specialist(allegedly)from Toyota in Glen Mills, Pa. who said they are not compatible.. I definitely tend to believe a non toyota mechanic.
The modules are the same, you would have to remove and replace them yourself. The battery packs are not interchangeable as one is 28 per pack, the other is only 20 per pack.
And they are correct. The batteries are not the same physically and the ECU's inside are most likely very different. The modules (cells) inside them are and as JC said, you can transfer the modules from pack to pack but you wouldn't have a complete set (28 vs 20) and for best results they all need to be matched. In your part of the country, packs last longer due to cooler temps so your 2012 (most likely) has several years left in it and those modules would be in poor condition from sitting on the shelf unused by the time you do need them. If it were me, I'd buy it, sell the modules (20x$50=$1,000), use the proceeds to get a grid charger for the 2012 pack and apply the rest to maintenance on the car.
