Hi everyone, I bought my 2012 Prius used. It only has 50k miles. I've dumped this stuff in my gas tank in other cars, but figured I'd ask here first before putting in the Prius. iPhone ?
Hi never tried STP, I use Liqui Moly Injection Cleaner or Sintoflon Ottoclean every 5000 km in my gen3. Never had problems. My Toyota dealer provide injector cleaning as well during scheduled maintenance
I use Techron on all of my cars and have done so for many years without any problems. Maybe every 6 months or so.
I just posted this in the Lucas thread in the FE forum, but it could also be useful info for some reading this thread. Techron Fuel Injector cleaner, in 16 oz bottles, is on sale at Costco for $11 for a 6 bottle case. A 16 oz bottle could be even be split between a couple of tanks.
Don't bother. I never found it or those Chevron Techrons to be worth a dud. I bought the box from Costco too and still have 3 left. I had a 01 Jetta with 170k miles. Had a light go off due to the exhaust. I thought it was the O2 sensor (I took it into Autozone and had them read the error code to corroborate my own scanner code). Replaced it and it wasn't. I bought this one that Amazon users raved about but it didnt work too well either (worked better than STP). My engine light went away and kept away for 500 miles. Then it came back. The problem is prob the catalytic converter but I didnt want to buy another one. So, I used good old Marvel Mystery oil. Try a bottle and you can feel the engine run smoother. I used a bottle in the oil and 1 bottle in the gas tank. Knock on wood, it has held up 2,000 miles later. At first, the smell coming from my exhaust was stinky. But after about 2-3 weeks, I didnt really smell it as much. So, I think it got the gunk out and cleaned as much as possible without tearing anything down. Walmart price beats Amazon price FYI. Try them for yourself and see. I never noticed anything after using the techron but boy did I notice it after I used Marvel.
I disagree completely runnyeggs. I get better mileage and the spark plugs stay cleaner when I run fuel treatment. Maybe 20-25 miles extra a tank. I've stuck with Lucas mostly though, although a lot of people swear by the Chevron stuff.
This. But there is no reason to think that other major brands wouldn't be OK too. No good way to tell how effective they are though. Pretty sure that the dealer's routine "injector cleaning" involves dumping a bottle of Techron with a Toyota label into the gas.......and charging you about 4X the normal price plus a half hour of labor.
His post is a rambling MESS. Most of it has nothing to do with injector cleaning. Techron is highly recommended by real mechanics.......for injector cleaning and lubrication, not for other things.
