What are the best tires to get for a 2017 Prius 2 with 15" wheels?

I am just planning ahead for when the Toyo's wear out. Is there a consensus best tire for performance and fuel efficiency for the Gen4 Prius? Perhaps a top 3 tires in no particular order. I assume the tires perform just the same on Gen3 and earlier Prius models with the 15" wheels.

Just my HUMBLE opinion. But everybody has their personal favorite. There are a dozen tire threads on this website. My MPG did decrease by about 5, but the performance of these Michelin's are far better than the OEM Toyo's I had. Again, just my opinion. Many great tires out there. (And some guys are very satisfied with the Toyo brand.)

Other brands may give me a better ride but I'm sticking with the Toyo's for the mileage. I also won't be changing my own oil anymore. I'll be going to the dealership.

I'm not planning on changing my ty res - after the service this week and checked how little wear they have, unless I have serious damage, they'll still be on the car when I sell it. They're Bridgestones here as standard.

With ty res, though, you have many choices - do you want grip, ride, longevity, quietness? Or, as TOYOTA has decided, for good reason with a PRIUS, one which provides good economy. You could decide that more of a performance ty re will suit you better, and forego a small eco advantage.

I just couldn't stand the loud tire noise any longer from my Toyo's. Plus, I had 2 or 3 incidents of loss of traction, even at slow speeds. However, other people love the Toyo's. Nothing wrong with that. I even liked mine, for awhile. :) But I've always installed Michelin on my vehicles. Doesn't mean they are the best, it's just a personal thing. (I got a July 4th $100 rebate). And a couple mpg loss is expected, as the new tires are "performance" all season tires. I'm re-living my youth! :ROFLMAO:

I have Bridgestones too. It appears to be a mixture in the US as to what tires are on the trims with 15" wheels.

I use the Continental ContI Tact LLR's and they are a really good tire......and a LLR tire is always a good choice.

I don't understand why some hate the toyo tire. I guess maybe because I'm coming from a standard car with a lot of road noise, I don't have any complaints about the road noise with my toyos. They seem to have very good traction, good performance and are wearing well. I had michelin hydroedges and those did very well MPG mileage wise, but terrible rain performance and eventually replaced them with the Michelin Defenders because of them not staying put on the road.. I would say these are well balanced myself.

I think the Toyo tires are fine for stock tires on a new car. The suspension on the Prius is very good making the tires not as important. They track well. I was just curious if there is a defacto aftermarket tire that does well with the Prius for mileage and performance.

These tire threads are like many of the oil change discussions. Ask 20 people, and you will get 20 different answers or suggestions.

It's kind of hit and miss. Just basically choose a brand based on word-of-mouth or reviews. It would be nice if we could test tires for 10 days, and then return them if we didn't like it. Maybe some tire shops actually allow you to do that, I don't know.

Yeah, there's pros/cons to every tire. You need to read and read, decide what's most important to you. Accept that there'll be some compromise. The choices are ever evolving too.

My Toyo's were already 40% worn after only 12,500 miles. They were properly inflated, rotated, and I drive conservatively. So that didn't sit very well with me.

    Bring on the Michelin's! :)

(I don't think you can go wrong with one of the top five recommended tires.)

I personally like the Falken tires in the budget category. They handle extremely well when new but are short lived tires never coming anywhere close to their tread life rating. Based on my limited research the Michelin Defender's look pretty good. A 90,000 mile tire. From experience when buying tires, get the warranty certificates. That way when you replace your tires the cost is greatly reduced.

In 15" it seems like everyone's in love with the Premier A/S, judging from TireRack reviews. BUT, I keep seeing horror stories about mpg drop, which turns me back to either the Energy Saver A/S, or Defenders. The Defenders likely trail the Energy Savers in mpg, but maybe better treadlife, handling? I'm really how much credence to put in TireRack ratings, who knows, who knows.

I got Defender XT (Costco's iteration) for our son's Civic, and they're working out ok. Now there's a new version T+H, just to confuse matters further.

We've got 17" OEM, but I like to pay attention to the 15" choices as well, I have a nice set of 15" rims in the wings.

I like Toyo's, but I like to use TireRack and check out and compare their road test videos. And since I have had my Prius (bought new in '09)...I try to get the best lrr, that I can get,for the money. I order them from TireRack, they will ship them in to a firestone, of choice, and they will put them on for me...

The defenders are GREAT tires but MPG will suffer. I had them on my toyota matrix until I got the prius but got about 5-6% less MPG than LRR hydroedges but those were plain scary after they wore about 1/2 way. Best MPG will come with a smooth rolling tire but you got to have grip and control too! I would recommend others look at the Gen 2 and Gen 3 tire threads and go with their recommendations.

I was looking at a 2017 Prius, trim three, at the dealer today. I never thought I would see 18 inch wheels on a Prius.

Those are Continental "extreme contact" tires, 245-55R-18 mounted on TRD wheels. Obviously it's an option. (It also had leather seats as an installed option.)

The tires have a treadwear rating of 540. Traction AA, Temperature A. Big wide grooves in the tread. They look like racing tires.
