Just to follow up on my previous post, I have been running Cusco ARBs and Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels, 16x7, with Yoko AD08R tyres, 205x55r16, on track in the UK.

I went on holiday to the Nurburgring recently and had a few tourist driving laps of the track, was fantastic fun, and Toyota GB has done a photo shoot and written a blog post about it:

I ran 205/55/16 AD08s for a while on my 16x6 CE28ns. At stock pressure (32psi), the rolling resistance was super high and the car felt very noticeably slower (in a straight line, lateral grip was much higher). Didn't feel right unless I was inflating to at least 42psi (warm tires) - very even tire wear at that pressure though, and I ran one set of AD08s for 30k(!) miles. What did you adjust tire pressure to?

I'm hoping I can fit Gen4 coilovers to a Prius Prime (it looks so much better lowered) - there's extra battery weight to be accounted for which might complicate handling.

 

Yeah, those CE28Ns are fabulous wheels. A couple of things, firstly I ran mine at nearer 36psi cold inflation, which the manual says you can do for economy or extra load in the car.

Secondly, for the 205 width, a 6in rim is too narrow for me. Yokohama says the tyre will go on 5.5-7.5in wheels. Of course if you are at the narrower end, you get more sidewall flex and better ride comfort, but nearer the wider end you get more stretched sidewalls and better cornering performance.

I had a bad experience, well relatively, in my old GT86 where I ran 225 R888s on the stock 7in rim and didn't enjoy it at all. Too much roll of the tyre in the corners, so difficult to get confident with the grip level. Since then, I've always tried to get near to the maximum width the tyres will support.

For the economy, that's a good question. I wonder if the narrow wheel and bendy sidewalls contributes to more rolling resistance? I suppose we would need to drive both back to back to get a good feel for that.

Regarding coilovers, I found there were quite a few on offer at the cheaper end of the market, but they all lowered the car, none would work with the stock ride height. In the UK, all Gen 4s come with camera and radar, and you are supposed to adjust these if you change the height or attitude of the car. This is supposed to be a bit fiddly, so I didn't bother going down that route in the end.

Does anyone have the RSR down springs? I am really considering those since coilovers may be a bit much for a daily. Don't get me wrong, I have AMR engineering coilovers on my g35 but for my prius I think lowering springs will do.

 

whats the offset? by the looks of it pulling off a 17x8.5 is nearly impossible if your 18x7.5 sit like that

 

I have 18x8 and have no issues. Just pick your offset carefully.

i am super familiar with offsets and specs but how low can you go in et before running into rubbing issues I'm new at these Duracell cars

 

I am lowered about 2 1/2" and have no rubbing issues.

sorry if you misunderstood what i was trying to say what i meant can you run a lower offset than 35 ?

 

Wasn't sure if you're asking me or someone else but i think it completely possible to run a 8.5. Mine are 7.5 and i'm running a 1 inch spacer so it's basically where it would sit if it were a 8.5 inch wheel.
