My 2010 Prius has 275,000 miles. I took it to my mechanic because of the declining miles per gallon and oil loss he changed perhaps the gaskets however the oil loss is still occurring. Any ideas on this? Thanks TD
And a LOT of others think that at 275,000 miles, the engine is just wearing out. Try using a heavier weight of "high mileage" oil and start shopping for a new car. Seriously.
Gracia's Amigos The rest of the vehicle seems good. I am thinking of replace an engine w a lightly used one. Do those engine swaps work out or is the tranny or something else next?
like other have said.. pcv replaced egr, egr cooler.. either replaced or cleaned.. also install a oil catch can to help prevent oil buildup in these components Pixel XL ?
At that mileage, you probably have worn out critical engine internal components(piston rings, etc). I have had a similar experience with a gen2. Has got no smoke coming out, but consumes almost 2quarts of oil a week. Wasnt funny. Had to opt for engine rebuild, instead of replacing the engine. You could get a low mileage engine, and swap. It wouywork. In our case, we ereylookjng at the cost of a used replaced engine.
