I've tried to search in hopes there is a post recommending the "best" replacement parts... but kept running into regular Prius posts or those that go in circles about how to suspect a bad battery, etc. Question is simple... In replacing the Prius C 12v battery, is the best call to use the OEM? Or is there another specific model to use in lieu of this? Thanks
it's only a matter of opinion. no studies have been done. optima, if they make one for the c is quite popular, and there have been no negative reports on any specific brand. personally, if i ever have to replace a 12 volt, i'll go gem, but only because i've had such great success with the 3 i've had, not because there is any proof that it is better.
The Optima site suggests they have no batteries for the 2012 Prius C... Are people doing mods of a specific model #?
not that i have read, that's why i said 'if'. you can also try auto parts stores, sears, walmart, amazon and batteries plus bulbs. i don't know if anyone makes one for the c though.
Yep +1 in the optima shown above. Amazon do have a feature where you input your car details and it will show you parts that fit. Works for batterys aswell.
I've seen a 9171-767 YellowTop Model DS46B24R T (What does that 'T' mean)? battery for sell on Ebay ($166.99 w/ free shipping), and I'm wondering how different it is from the 81717-767 ? It's going to be another cold winter, and I'm thinking it's time to replace the OEM battery.. Thanks, Rich
Hi guys. I worked as a manager at Auto Parts stores for 15 years. I just purchased a 2012 Prius C(3) with 51,000 miles. On most cars in South Florida, 12v batteries need changing every 2.5-3 years, even if they are AGM; though cars that have the battery away from the elements (BMW, Miata, etc.) tend to last much longer. When should I expect to change the 12v battery?
If yours still has the OEM battery in it, I'd go ahead and swap it out. From what I've read, bad things happen to Prius' when the 12v battery dies.
