So I had this Prius Gen3 2010 since 2012 and up here in New England, rust is pretty bad. I notice a rattling sound recently and thought a hanger could be loose or rusted out. Sure enough the exhaust pipe mid bracket was broken off the pipe. It was welded on but apparently not any more. Is this a common break? Anyone else have this same issue? What's the best way to repair? Go to a mechanic to re-weld OR repair DIY with a off market hanger that will never come off again?
Curious to know what you ended up doing. We have the same rust issues I presume. I took my 2010 Gen3 to the dealer for an oil change and mentioned the rattle. They found that the bracket weld had broken. So they removed the bracket completely. Now the rattling is worse. I suspect that the bracket is there specifically to hold everything in place and to stop a potential rattle. So now I have to figure out how to repair. (I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the dealer).
